Not only to satisfy the entertainment needs, the Tac Xinh (Praying for Harvest) dance of the San Chay ethnic group is with the intention of sending their faith to the supernatural world; praying for favorable rain, wind, all things to grow, good crops, peace and happiness for every family. Tac Xinh dance also shows the filial piety of the San Chay ethnic group towards their ancestors; at the same time, it is a spiritual "bridge" between heaven, earth and people. The dance also shows the spirit of solidarity and love of labor of the people in the process of building a prosperous village.

Because of its uniqueness, yet familiarity, Tac Xinh dance has been passed down through generations of San Chay ethnic people. Often, during the early spring festival, Tac Xinh dance is held in a bustling and exciting atmosphere. Before the festival, people in the villages invite each other to the grass field next to the forest near the village to practice together. Grandparents and parents teach their children and grandchildren, the next generation follows the previous generation, the dance is preserved in its original form and its value is promoted through the practice and performance process of the people.

The dance consists of 9 “scenes”: Visiting the road, establishing the village, making decisions, sharpening knives, clearing the fields, checking the stakes, picking, celebrating the harvest and the woodpecker. The unique thing about Tac Xinh dance is that it is performed on a primitive musical background, not mixed with modern music. The percussion instruments used by the people include: bamboo drums, gongs, cymbals, bamboo tubes and bamboo sticks of different lengths and indispensable earthen drums, an important musical instrument in Tac Xinh dance.

The drum is actually a hole dug by the people about 30cm deep, the bottom is wider than the top, the wider the sound is, the louder the sound. But to complete the drum, after skillfully digging the hole, the people fix a piece of bark on the mouth of the hole to serve as the drum surface. During the performance, the drum plays the main role, and is also considered the sound that conveys the wishes of the people to the gods and ancestors.

The rhythm of the instrument is simple, consisting of two main syllables, tac and xinh, easy to learn and follow. The tac rhythm raises the foot, the xinh rhythm lowers the foot. The sound is simple, but the San Chay ethnic people have created a poetic, lively music that fascinates the audience. Therefore, Tac Xinh dance has a strong vitality, spreading more and more widely in the community.

Not only the San Chay ethnic group dances Tac Xinh, many other ethnic groups in Thai Nguyen province also practice Tac Xinh dance to perform on the occasion of the Spring festival; on the National Great Unity Day... For a simple reason: Tac Xinh dance, in addition to meeting the spiritual needs of the people, also has the meaning of educating about tradition, love of work, and expressing the beauty of unique cultural identity.

Thai Nguyen, through preserving and promoting traditional ethnic dances, has contributed to raising awareness among the people, orienting the role of people voluntarily preserving cultural heritage in the community, relying on cultural heritage to develop the economy through local tourism activities.
