Enhancing the value of Cam Kim ecological village

With a dense ecosystem, Cam Kim is considered the "green lung" right next to Hoi An ancient town.

In addition, Cam Kim is also an area where a number of traditional crafts exist, the most prominent of which is Kim Bong carpentry (recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016).

Recognizing the unique value of this area, the old city of Hoi An issued a specialized Resolution with the Project "Building the countryside - Cam Kim ecological craft village in the period of 2017 - 2025".

The project implementation process has achieved many positive results, enhancing the value of this unique rural area.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, in Cam Kim, the model of "Eco-cultural - tourism village" has been formed, attracting more than 14,000 visitors each year based on community tourism activities and about 8,000 study tours.

In addition, we have invested in synchronous infrastructure, promoted the development of organic agriculture , and built communes that meet advanced new rural standards (2/3 of villages meet model new rural standards).

The total budget for implementing this project in the 2021 - 2025 period is more than 34.5 billion VND, of which more than 30.2 billion VND has been disbursed (about 88%).

Ms. Bui Thi Kim Cuc, Head of Kim Bong Ecological Agriculture and Community Tourism Cooperative, informed that the cooperative has currently built tourism service groups such as river boating groups, culinary groups, tour guides at the site, community homestays, etc. to diversify the value chain for community tourism and educational tourism.

Up to now, this community has had enough capacity to welcome groups of 50-100 guests, contributing to enhancing the value of the destination as well as creating new vitality for the appearance of Cam Kim ecological village.

Although the resolution on the construction of Cam Kim rural areas and ecological craft villages has been implemented quite fundamentally, it has not been completed due to the process of arranging administrative units. Many tasks are still unfinished such as some models do not have specific evaluation criteria, detailed planning has not been approved, and 25/52 projects have not been implemented...

Not only limited to a thematic resolution or project, the orientation for developing Cam Kim ecological village in the new context is also receiving attention because this area has now become an urban area of Hoi An ward.

This is also the only rural area among the five administrative units merged to form the current Hoi An ward.

According to Mr. Tong Quoc Hung, Vice Chairman of Hoi An Ward People's Committee, although Cam Kim has become an urban area, it will still inherit the typical values of this village. The ward will continue to build a new rural area for this area by continuing a number of unfinished projects and programs.

“During the implementation process, if there are any problems, the locality will report to the city or if there are policies and instructions from the city, changes will be made. The ward’s viewpoint is to preserve and enhance the value of the ecological village for this area because the work is being carried out very well, improving the quality of life for the community,” said Mr. Tong Quoc Hung.
