This statement contradicts the announcement just two days earlier by the US Customs and Border Protection Agency that some electronic and high-tech products imported into the US will be on the list of products exempted from tariffs under the new tariff policy of the Donald Trump administration.
The products exempted from tariffs include smartphones, desktop computers, electronic components and high-tech items such as semiconductor chips , solar panels, and memory cards to reduce the negative impact of tariffs on the US technology industry, especially companies that depend on global supply chains such as Apple, Nvidia and electronics manufacturers.
It is not yet clear what specific tariffs the US plans to impose on smartphones, computers and other electronic devices.
Currently, many major US technology companies, including Apple, have manufacturing plants abroad, especially in China. It is estimated that nearly 90% of Apple's iPhone production and assembly is done in China, and 80% of iPhones produced for the US market are from China. Therefore, imposing taxes on these items will have a major impact on US businesses and consumers.
Also on April 13, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce called on the US to stop imposing reciprocal tariffs and return to resolving differences through equal dialogue based on mutual respect. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that the US reciprocal tariffs not only fail to resolve domestic problems but also undermine the international economic and trade order. This policy disrupts the production activities of enterprises and affects people's consumption spending.
According to the spokesperson, China maintains a consistent stance in economic and trade relations with the US and that there will be no winner in a trade war and there will be no way out for protectionism.
Currently, the US is imposing a total tariff of 145% on Chinese goods, while Beijing has responded with a tariff of 125% on US goods.
