After nearly 3 months of planting, the certified peanut seed production model in Quat Xa village, Cam Thanh commune, Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province, sponsored by the Korea International Agriculture Program in Vietnam (KOPIA) and the North Central Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology, has reached harvest time with high productivity. This program is part of the Project to popularize high-quality peanut varieties for arid regions and increase the added value of peanuts in Vietnam.

The model was deployed on an area of 20 hectares. During the implementation process, the project supported L14 peanut varieties, trained farmers in planting, care, harvesting and post-harvest preservation techniques. Thanks to large-scale investment, proper technical procedures and good care, although it was the summer-autumn crop, peanuts still grew well, giving high yields equivalent to the winter-spring crop.
Through evaluation, peanut yield reached about 24 quintals/ha. With peanut seed price of 40,000 VND/kg, each hectare gives income of about 96 million VND.
Building a peanut seed model not only helps farmers increase their income but also proactively source quality peanut seeds for planting in the upcoming winter-spring crop.
