Expanding space for growth
After the merger, Dien Sanh commune has an area of nearly 88km², with a population of more than 25,000 people. This is a land with many development potentials from agriculture , industry-small industry (CN-TTCN) to trade-services (TM-DV). A series of dynamic projects are being implemented in the area and neighboring areas such as Quang Tri Industrial Park, My Thuy Port Area, North-South Expressway, National Highway 15D, North-South high-speed railway... are important advantages for Dien Sanh to develop quickly, comprehensively and sustainably.
In the period of 2020-2025, the total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the whole commune reached 556 billion VND; Industry, handicrafts and occupations grew quite well with a total value of about 714 billion VND with 431 production establishments and more than 1,672 workers participating; Trade and services play an important role in the local economic structure, contributing 1,554.5 billion VND, contributing to improving people's income and life.

The highlight is that agriculture has gradually shifted from small-scale production to concentrated production, applying scientific and technological advances. Areas specializing in growing crops such as pepper, chili and high-quality rice have been established and affirmed their brands in the market, many products have been recognized as OCOP. Livestock and aquaculture have developed in the direction of bio-safety combined with environmental protection, providing more than 1,850 tons of fresh meat and 70.5 tons of seafood each year.
Many typical local industries continue to be maintained and developed effectively; initially the brand name "Dien Sanh Rice" was positively received by the market; detailed planning at a scale of 1/500 of the urban service area around Quang Tri Industrial Park created favorable conditions to attract investment and develop the economy in the area. In particular, the central area (old Dien Sanh town) continues to be a strong development hub for trade and services. The old Hai Truong and Hai Dinh communes promote the advantages of labor, land and traditional industries, forming a diverse production network, contributing to the even distribution of economic development.
Creating breakthroughs from economic restructuring
Despite many achievements, the economic picture of Dien Sanh commune still faces many difficulties. Therefore, in the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee and local government have determined to develop the economy in conjunction with structural transformation towards industry, trade and services, aiming to build the locality into one of the central urban areas in the southern region of the province. The set target is an average growth rate of production value of 9%-10%/year; average income per capita of 125-130 million VND; economic structure shifting towards reducing the proportion of agriculture to 12%-14%, increasing industry-small-scale industry and construction to 42%-44%, trade-service accounting for 41%-43%.
To implement this, the locality aims to develop organic, high-tech and circular agriculture, associated with land accumulation, forming large-scale concentrated production areas; building models of production and consumption linkages according to the value chain.
Promote investment attraction, develop industry and handicrafts, prioritize agricultural and forestry processing projects, supporting industries, encourage the development of traditional craft villages linking production with community tourism.
Chairman of Dien Sanh Commune People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Hieu said that to create momentum for a breakthrough, we determined that shifting the economic structure towards industry, trade and services is the decisive factor. In particular, we pay attention to planning work; manage, allocate and use resources reasonably and effectively; create a favorable environment to promote internal resources and mobilize external resources so that Dien Sanh can have solid steps in the future.
At the same time, promote the shift of labor from agriculture to industry, handicrafts and non-agricultural occupations, form a high-quality workforce to serve industrial parks and clusters in the area; support farmers in applying scientific and technological advances, encourage the development of OCOP products and expand consumption links.
In the field of trade and services, the locality focuses on developing market infrastructure, transportation services, logistics and e-commerce associated with digital transformation to open up new development space, creating momentum for the entire region.
“With the existing foundation and clear orientation, Dien Sanh is facing a new opportunity to break through and become a dynamic economic development center in the South of the province. With high political determination, the consensus of the people and the support of all levels and sectors, the goal of building Dien Sanh to meet advanced new rural standards by 2030, towards a modern civilized urban area is completely feasible,” Mr. Hieu affirmed.
