Venerable Thich Le Trang, Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, said that Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc burned himself to death on June 20, 1963 at the intersection of Le Van Duyet and Phan Dinh Phung, Saigon (now the intersection of Cach Mang Thang Tam - Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), leaving behind the Immortal Heart relic, a symbol of the spirit of compassion and wisdom of Buddhism and the tradition of the Vietnamese people.
Now that the conditions have come together, the invitation, enshrinement and worship of the relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc - one of the important spiritual events will be carried out on the occasion of the opening of the United Nations Vesak Festival 2025, the Buddha's Birthday in Buddhist calendar 2569.
Specifically, the ceremony to worship the Heart Relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc will be held from 2:00 p.m. on May 6 to May 10, 2025 (April 9 to 13, At Ty year) at Vietnam Quoc Tu (No. 242 - 244, 3/2 Street, Ward 12, District 10).
Previously, the plan to organize the ceremony to worship the Heart Relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc was scheduled for the morning of May 3, but on the afternoon of March 2, the Organizing Committee announced a temporary postponement due to "not enough conditions".
On May 3, the Buddha Sakyamuni Relic Worship Ceremony at Thanh Tam Pagoda (Binh Chanh District) attracted thousands of people. According to the Organizing Committee, from May 6 to 8, 2025, the 20th United Nations Day of Vesak will be held in Ho Chi Minh City. The event attracted about 2,700 delegates, including 1,250 international delegates from 85 countries and territories, marking the fourth time Vietnam has hosted this global religious and cultural event.
