Celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Provincial Party Committee (July 29, 1930 - July 29, 2025): Works that leave their mark on the homeland

North-South Expressway section through Thanh Hoa province.

A memorable milestone in that journey was December 23, 2018, when the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex Project was officially inaugurated and put into commercial operation. This is a key national oil and gas project, with a total investment of more than 9 billion USD, a processing capacity of 10 million tons of crude oil/year, the largest in Vietnam to date.

According to representatives of the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and the provincial industrial zones, the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex's stable production, continuous improvement of quality and diversification of petroleum products have partly created international investment attraction for Nghi Son Economic Zone. The project creates a strong driving force for socio-economic development in the South Thanh Hoa, North Nghe An and neighboring areas. From a pristine coastal area, Nghi Son Economic Zone has risen to become a major industrial center of the country. Now, Nghi Son Economic Zone is not only known as the key cement production center of the North, electricity production of the North Central region, but also the fastest growing petrochemical and port service center in the country. In 2024, the stable operation of Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant processed 83 million barrels, equivalent to 11.4 million tons of crude oil. From value added tax from crude oil imports and other taxes, the factory has contributed more than 996 million USD to the budget, equivalent to more than 24,700 billion VND, helping Thanh Hoa province's budget revenue to rank first in the North Central region, among the top 10 localities with the highest revenue in the country.

Two years ago, the North-South Expressway section through Thanh Hoa province, 98.8km long with 7 interchanges radiating to localities in the province, was opened to traffic, an important factor promoting socio-economic development, creating favorable conditions to attract investors. On the route, there are many bridges over rivers and lakes, eliminating the separation between localities on both sides of the river.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Lai The Khai, the highlight in the province's development journey is the rapid development of the transportation system in a synchronous, modern, focused, and key direction, focusing on projects with inter-regional connectivity, the province's economic centers, Nghi Son Economic Zone, industrial parks, industrial clusters, border gates, urban areas... Notable are the North-South expressway; the road from Tho Xuan Airport to Nghi Son Economic Zone; the road from Thanh Hoa City Center (old) connecting with the traffic route from Tho Xuan Airport to Nghi Son Economic Zone; Nam Song Ma Avenue; the western belt road of Thanh Hoa City (old); upgrading and expanding National Highway 1, National Highway 217, Hoi Xuan - Ten Tan road (National Highway 15C)... Traffic works have contributed to enhancing the province's position, strongly affecting trade, tourism development, and investment attraction...

With the existing advantages of a 102km long coastline and a 17,000km2 territorial waters, many famous beautiful beaches such as Sam Son, Hai Tien, Hai Hoa... in recent years, many large economic groups have been investing in tourism development in Thanh Hoa, creating large-scale marine tourism projects such as: Sam Son Sea Square, Sun World Sam Son Water Park; Flamingo Ibiza Hai Tien... with a true four-season entertainment and resort space. Thereby, gradually turning Thanh Hoa into one of the attractive tourist destinations in the region and the whole country. In the period of 2021-2025, the whole province is expected to welcome nearly 58.3 million visitors, with an average growth rate of 16.9%/year. Mr. Dao Xuan Nghia in Hoang Thanh commune said: “From a pristine area at the estuary, the Flamingo Linh Truong resort project with high-rise hotels, walking streets, light parks, entertainment... completed and put into operation has created new tourism products to attract visitors, while creating stable jobs and improving the quality of life and spirit of our people”.

The changes of Thanh Hoa today originate from the province's breakthrough thinking and strategic vision in infrastructure development. Large-scale projects in various fields are invested in and built, with wide influence, creating a solid foundation for the province's socio-economic development to have a breakthrough.
