According to experts, digital transformation is not only a trend but also an inevitable requirement for the sustainable development of Vietnamese enterprises in the digital age. Domestic technology enterprises have demonstrated their ability to master core technology and develop digital solutions suitable for market needs.

However, to successfully transform digitally, there needs to be synchronous support from the Government, the business community and training organizations. Only then can Vietnamese enterprises grow strongly, contributing to the development of the national digital economy and global integration.

Technology businesses are ready

In the digital age, digital transformation has become an indispensable requirement for countries, especially in the context of Vietnam's increasingly deep integration into the global economy. The application of modern technology in production and business activities not only helps businesses grow sustainably but also contributes to the development of the digital economy.

Currently, the national modern information technology infrastructure is gradually being completed with infrastructure synchronization, 5G network is being commercialized... Besides, the Vietnamese information technology market has names capable of providing comprehensive smart products and solutions to support businesses in accessing digital.

In the Vietnamese business community, the digital transformation process takes place mainly in industries such as finance, transportation, tourism, e-commerce, manufacturing industry... In order to adapt to changes and accelerate business operations, many businesses have chosen and invested in digital transformation at many different scales.

One of the important factors for Vietnamese enterprises to catch up with this trend is the development and application of advanced digital technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, big data, and process automation.

Leading technology companies in Vietnam such as VNPT, FPT, Viettel, VNG… have been taking the lead in developing and applying these technologies. FPT has developed the FPT Cloud cloud computing platform, providing digital services to thousands of domestic and international businesses. Viettel, a large telecommunications group, is not only a pioneer in developing 5G but also applying AI and Big Data in fields such as telecommunications, healthcare and education.

Meanwhile, VNPT representative said that they will continue to develop the "Make in Vietnam" digital platform to build a safe and effective digital ecosystem, thereby promoting the application of digital technology in all areas of economic and social life such as: Education, healthcare, agriculture, construction and state management. Typical examples include the VNPT Home&clinic Smart Hospital Platform; Digital University Solution; Digital Transcript System/ Electronic Transcript; vnEdu GoMeet+…

“Implementing the contents of Resolution 57 is not only a responsibility but also an opportunity for VNPT to affirm its position, actively contribute to the national digital transformation, and bring Vietnam to new heights on the world technology map,” said Mr. To Dung Thai, Chairman of VNPT Board of Members.

Not only large technology enterprises, but also small and medium-sized companies are implementing digital solutions to improve labor productivity, enhance service quality and expand markets.

Take MoMo for example. This e-wallet has applied AI and Big Data to enhance user experience.

In addition, major banks in Vietnam such as Vietcombank, BIDV and Techcombank are actively implementing blockchain technology, AI, and cloud computing into their operations. These banks have begun testing blockchain applications in financial transactions to improve transaction security and efficiency. In addition, they are also developing online banking applications, helping customers to make transactions anytime, anywhere without having to go to a branch.

In the e-commerce sector, platforms such as Tiktok Shop, Lazada, and Shopee have applied AI and Big Data to improve customer experience, optimize logistics processes, and forecast consumer demand. These applications not only help businesses improve operational efficiency but also enhance competitiveness in an increasingly competitive market.

Vietnamese startups are also contributing to the digital transformation revolution. Startups such as TopCV and Base.vn have also developed digital applications to help optimize the recruitment process and manage work in businesses.

Digital transformation not only requires businesses to apply advanced technologies but also requires close cooperation with major technology partners. Many Vietnamese businesses have recognized the importance of this and are proactively signing strategic cooperation contracts with domestic and international technology companies to promote the digital transformation process.

Many measures to support businesses in digital transformation

While digital transformation offers great opportunities, it is not always easy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SMEs face many challenges in implementing technology solutions, especially in terms of investment costs. Investing in digital technologies such as AI, Big Data, and cloud computing requires a significant amount of capital, which not all businesses can afford.

Switching costs are a major deterrent for many small businesses. Large companies have strong financial resources and can easily invest in advanced technologies, while small businesses face difficulties in finding capital and implementing new technologies.

In addition, the lack of technical human resources is also a major challenge. SMEs often lack a team of experts experienced in implementing complex technologies such as AI, blockchain, and Big Data. To overcome this problem, many small businesses have to outsource consulting services or cooperate with large technology companies, but the cost of this does not always fit their budget.

Furthermore, the difference between large and small businesses in technology adoption creates a large gap in competitiveness. Large businesses often have strong R&D teams and the ability to test and deploy new technologies, while SMEs face difficulties in adopting and maintaining technology solutions.

To help SMEs overcome the challenges of digital transformation, support from organizations and the Government is needed. One important solution is to develop technology platforms specifically for SMEs, helping them easily access new technologies without having to make too much investment.

Recently, FPT Corporation has cooperated with Base.vn to provide SMEs with a comprehensive business management platform. The Base.vn platform provides more than 50 applications focusing on three core problems: Work and project management, building a transparent information system, and human resource management. This helps SMEs easily access new technology without large investments. Mr. Truong Gia Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation shared: "Small and medium-sized enterprises are being left behind in the digital transformation. Both Base.vn and FPT share the goal of contributing to a strong Vietnam."

VNPT has also developed an e-commerce platform for businesses, oneSME, to support SMEs in digital transformation. According to VNPT, the platform provides services such as digital signatures, electronic invoices, social insurance declarations, electronic contracts, server rental, and restaurant management software. This helps SMEs easily access new technologies at optimal costs.

CMC Corporation also provides cloud computing solutions to help SMEs optimize costs and resources. According to CMC representatives, cloud computing platforms allow businesses to use the expert resources of service providers without having to invest in infrastructure in advance, helping them access new technologies more effectively.

Government support programs such as Resolution 52-NQ/TW on the development of digital government and digital economy are one of the practical measures to help small and medium enterprises access technology services. The government is also promoting financial support policies, creating conditions for SMEs to access preferential loans to invest in digital transformation.

In addition, human resource training is also very important. Enterprises need to build digital skills training programs to help employees grasp new technologies and apply them to their work. Organizations such as VINASA, VCCI and business associations are actively organizing training courses and seminars to help small businesses update their knowledge and skills in digital transformation.

The Vietnamese government has implemented many policies to support businesses in this process. In 2024, the national digital transformation theme focuses on "Developing the digital economy with 4 pillars: Information technology industry, digitalization of economic sectors, digital governance and digital data," to create an important driving force for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.

Ministries, sectors, localities and related associations have deployed direct training for nearly 14,200 enterprises in 63 provinces and cities in 2024; built a network of more than 150 digital transformation consultants to develop a digital ecosystem for enterprises; provided in-depth consulting support for more than 400 enterprises, to build and deploy a digital transformation roadmap, support the application of innovative technology to the management and production processes of enterprises.

In particular, on December 22, 2024, General Secretary To Lam signed and issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. The Resolution is considered "Contract 10" for Vietnam's journey of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation development.

Recently, on March 25, 2025, the Prime Minister signed Directive No. 10/CT-TTg, emphasizing the particularly important role of the private economic sector, focusing on promoting the development of SMEs. One of the solutions proposed in Directive 10 is to prioritize the allocation of resources to support innovative start-up SMEs, improve competitiveness in participating in the value chain; digital transformation, green transformation, development of new business models; promoting technology application, innovation and digital transformation.

From a policy perspective, these solutions are expected to be major “levers” to help small and medium-sized enterprises overcome current barriers and accelerate the digital transformation process.

However, according to experts, to promote digital transformation in enterprises, there needs to be close coordination between the Government, enterprises and related organizations. The commercialization of the 5G network is expected to promote the digitalization of enterprises in Vietnam, creating favorable conditions for the application of new technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data.

In addition, enhancing training of high-quality human resources, raising awareness of the importance of digital transformation and building modern information technology infrastructure are also important solutions to promote this process.

Despite many challenges, with support from the Government and efforts from businesses, the digital transformation process in Vietnam is taking place strongly, promising to bring many opportunities and development potential in the future./.
