According to multiple sources, the iOS 18.5 update will be released in the near future. This will likely be one of the last versions before Apple shifts its focus to iOS 19, which is expected to be introduced on June 9 at the WWDC event.

This week, Apple released the developer beta and public beta of iOS 18.5 simultaneously, which typically only happens late in the beta cycle when the release date is near, 9to5Mac reports.

According to the report, Apple has little reason to extend the testing of iOS 18.5 because there are very few changes in this version. On the other hand, the two delayed features are the Siri and Apple Intelligence upgrades that Apple announced to be released later.

Some features may be added to the final beta before the official release. For now, iOS 18.5 will receive some minor tweaks to the Mail app, making it easier for users to customize settings. A new banner may appear when “Back Tap” is enabled.

Along with that, Apple Intelligence will likely appear in the Chinese market. Users will be able to get wallpapers celebrating Pride Month.

ZolloTech 's Aaron Zollo pointed out that the latest beta has a build number of 22F5068A. “The A at the end of the number shows that we are very close to the official release,” he said.

In addition to the Pride Month wallpapers, Zollo said Apple will also add two wallpapers that he described as “countless light and dark dots forming overlapping graphic pockets,” or “three crystalline bubbles that envelop the refraction of light, revealing distorted copies.”

The latest beta fixes a CarPlay issue that was present in the previous version. Microstutters in apps like Apple Music have also been fixed.

David Phelan, a technology and lifestyle reporter for Forbes , predicts that iOS 18.5 will most likely be released on May 12 or 13. In case of a change, Apple will choose the following week.

Last year, Apple released iOS 17.6 in July and iOS 17.6.1 in August. Then, iOS 17.7 and 17.7.1 were released alongside iOS 18 in September. While there will likely be a few more iOS 18 updates, iOS 18.5 will be one of the final versions, Phelan said.

The closest sign will be the release date of the Release Candidate, a near-final release candidate. If it’s released on Monday (May 5) or Tuesday (May 6), the official iOS 18.5 launch next week is all but guaranteed.
