Science fuels rehabilitation

Da Nang's healthcare sector is gradually making steady progress in applying modern science to treatment processes. At the Department of Rehabilitation, Da Nang C Hospital, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and smart robots contribute to creating a modern, lively and effective treatment space, inspiring confidence in recovery from every movement.

New steps in rehabilitation

At the rehabilitation treatment area at Da Nang C Hospital, patient Mai Quy Trung (residing in Son Tra ward) slowly reached out his hand towards the instruction screen of the 3D virtual reality system - VRRS EVO.

Every single movement of Mr. Trung is accurately recorded and meticulously analyzed by the system thanks to integrated sensor technology and AI. Thanks to that, the doctor will have an intuitive view of the training process, collect objective and detailed data on the range of motion, speed and accuracy of each movement, helping the patient achieve better results.

Interestingly, instead of monotonous exercises that easily tire patients, the sensor virtual reality system is designed as a multi-sensory game, combining movement, perception and hand function in the same process. No longer the familiar image of white beds and heavy equipment, patients are "exercising while playing", "playing while recovering" with this system.

Patients not only exercise their bodies but also stimulate their brains, thereby improving their ability to recover comprehensively.

“If I just practice normally, my hands and feet just work mechanically, without thinking. But when I practice with the sensor, I have to use both my hands and my brain. I have to think and coordinate, so I feel the results are more obvious, less boring and progress faster,” Mr. Trung happily shared.

According to the Department of Rehabilitation, with the 3D virtual reality system - VRRS EVO, patients have access to a very lively and exciting exercise process. Patients are in a state of trying to exercise with the highest interest, helping to quickly improve movement as well as cognitive perception.

Not stopping at virtual reality technology, Da Nang C Hospital is also equipped with a series of high-tech devices such as the MRG-P100 gait training robot, Gamma balance assessment and training system...

Among them, the MRG-P100 robot is considered a significant step forward, supporting patients to stand up and walk safely and as soon as possible. This robot supports at three points when practicing standing: the pelvis, abdomen and knees, creating a sense of stability for patients with spinal cord injuries, strokes or neuromuscular diseases. In particular, this system can set up three functional gait patterns, adjusting to each patient's physical condition.

Or the Gamma balance training system with games that help doctors evaluate the patient's balance disorder in detail. Data from training sessions is compiled and analyzed, from which doctors and technicians will establish a treatment program that is close to the reality of each individual.

Towards smart healthcare

According to Dr. Bui Van Hoi - Head of Rehabilitation Department, AI is gradually being deeply integrated into rehabilitation processes, mainly through combination with modern medical equipment.

For example, AI can work with rehabilitation robots to “read” the patient’s movement limitations, thereby supporting more precise and effective exercise steps. AI can also connect to virtual reality systems, receive and analyze neural signals from the cerebral cortex, and then adjust the treatment scene to suit each patient’s impaired function.

At the same time, AI supports diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and therapeutic intervention.

Patients can also use smartphones with installed software to exercise at home. Doctors can monitor remotely and adjust exercises accordingly.

In recent times, Da Nang C Hospital has invested in many advanced and modern rehabilitation systems, contributing to improving the quality of treatment, shortening recovery time and helping patients reintegrate into the community soon.

The high-tech equipment being deployed here is considered to be among the most advanced in the region and the country.

“We identify the application of technology as not only a trend, but also an essential need in modern healthcare. In the coming time, the hospital will continue to invest and promote human resource training to master new equipment, while enhancing scientific research and cooperation with domestic and foreign units. The goal is to help patients in Da Nang quickly and effectively access the most advanced medical equipment, especially in the context of the digital age and AI is developing strongly,” Dr. Hoi shared.
