Internet connection from Vietnam to international is about to be fully restored

Internet connection from Vietnam to international countries currently goes through 5 international submarine optical cable lines with a total capacity of more than 20 Tbps, total available capacity of 34 Tbps including: AAG (Asia America Gateway), APG (Asia Pacific Gateway), SMW3 (SEA-ME-WE3), IA (Intra Asia) and AAE-1 (Asia- Africa- Euro 1).

In 2024, 3 out of 5 submarine cable lines that Vietnamese network operators are exploiting encountered problems, causing disruptions in services at sea. Specifically:

The APG cable line has problems on branches S1.9, S3, S8 and S9; the AAE-1 line has problems on branches S1H3 and S1H5 and the IA line has problems with branches S1 and S5.

When fiber optic cables have problems, network operators have plans to transfer capacity to other cable directions to ensure service quality for customers. However, according to records, some users of FTTH fiber optic Internet services have slow access to international directions during peak hours.

IPS representative said that the IA cable line has now been fixed and has fully restored connection capacity on the line.

The problems on the sS3, S8 and S9 branches of the APG cable have all been resolved; the S1.9 branch is currently being repaired and is expected to be completed in the first week of October.

Similar to the APG line, part of the international Internet connection capacity on the AAE-1 cable line has been restored, branch S1H3, while branch S1H5 is expected to be repaired by October 26.

Thus, according to the schedule, it is expected that all Internet connection capacity from Vietnam to international will be fully restored this October.
