At a weekly press conference in Tehran on April 29, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani denounced the resolution passed by the European Parliament on April 25 urging the European Union to impose additional sanctions on Tehran and blacklist the IRGC in response to Iran's large-scale military retaliation on April 14 against Israel.
Mr. Kanaani said the issues raised by the European Parliament were "baseless and irresponsible." The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said the IRGC is Iran's official military force, playing an indispensable role in ensuring national security, protecting national borders and facing external aggression and threats.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman praised the IRGC's "unique, undeniable and decisive" role in fighting terrorist groups in the region, with many of its members sacrificing their lives to fight Takfiri "terrorists" and the Islamic State (IS). Mr. Kanaani advised Europeans to think properly about the IRGC before making any decisions.
