On April 26, the Provincial Farmers' Association (PPA) held a communication conference on the project "Propaganda and mobilization of farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions" in Thach Thanh district.
Delegates attending the conference.
The project "Propaganda and mobilization of farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions" is funded by the BRACE Fund and implemented by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association. The project has been implemented by the provincial Farmers' Association since 2022 with many activities such as: launching the project, training on techniques, organizing communication events, supporting crop by-product choppers, etc.
Up to now, the provincial associations have built models applying environmentally friendly organic waste treatment techniques, contributing to changing farmers' awareness and habits in agricultural production and protecting the rural environment.
Mr. Vu Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, spoke at the conference.
At the conference, delegates were informed about the current status of waste classification and treatment, and introduced environmentally friendly organic waste treatment methods through the application of waste treatment techniques within the framework of the Project "Propaganda and mobilization of farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions".
Accordingly, the reporter conveyed techniques for fermenting crop by-products as animal feed, composting organic fertilizer from crop by-products in the field... These are quite simple, easy-to-do, and environmentally friendly techniques. Farmers can take advantage of post-harvest agricultural by-products to ferment crop by-products as nutritious animal feed, compost organic fertilizer from straw and crop by-products right in the field; raise calcium worms, raise earthworms with pig manure, buffalo, cow, chicken manure, leftover food...
In addition, these measures also create a new source of food for livestock and a valuable source of organic fertilizer (calcium worm manure, vermicompost); raising chickens on thick biological bedding helps reduce the work of cleaning the coop, limits unpleasant odors in the coop, the chickens grow quickly and healthily, and are less susceptible to diseases.
Conference overview.
Through the conference, members and farmers are encouraged to apply methods of converting organic waste, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting the environment and increasing income. This is also an opportunity for members and farmers to understand and replicate the project "Propaganda and mobilizing farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions".
