The fulcrum between events
Mrs. Duc's husband, Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, the breadwinner of the family, suddenly suffered a stroke without warning. When he was taken to the hospital, the doctor diagnosed him as being in a deep coma, with a life expectancy of only 50%.
“The doctor said we needed intensive treatment, acupuncture, and physical therapy, but the cost was huge. It was so surprising, my family didn’t know where to get such a large sum of money,” Mrs. Duc recalled, choking up.
When they were almost hopeless, the family received information from Prudential life insurance company: Mr. Thien was eligible to receive nearly 2 billion VND in benefits for critical illness and total permanent disability, thanks to the insurance contracts that he and his wife and daughter had participated in many years ago.
“Without insurance, my family probably wouldn't be able to afford it, because the amount of money is too large,” Ms. Duc shared.
After more than 20 days in the hospital, when it seemed impossible for him to sit up, Mr. Thien began to gradually recover with physical therapy and acupuncture. With timely financial support, his family was able to cover the treatment costs and focus on caring for him in recovery without having to borrow or sell assets.
The miracle happened, after just over a month, Mr. Thien was able to live normally, no longer having to depend on his relatives. His voice was still weak, but his spirit and will were stronger.
“Thanks to family insurance, I was able to cover the treatment costs so he could have a chance to recover,” Ms. Duc shared.

Insurance - not luck, but preparation
Mr. Thien and Mrs. Duc's family joined insurance many years ago, with the initial need to save money, starting in 2008 with 3 small insurance contracts. Gradually, the family maintained the habit of raising a piggy bank every day to pay regular insurance premiums, demonstrating perseverance and financial discipline, and now the family has nearly 20 insurance contracts from Prudential.

In the first 6 months of the year, according to data from the Insurance Association, the total number of life insurance contracts in effect reached more than 11.7 million contracts, an increase of 1.06% over the same period. This shows that customers continue to maintain contracts, believing in the protection value that insurance brings.
In addition, as of mid-July, life insurance companies paid out nearly VND29,000 billion, up 6.5% over the same period last year. This figure shows the increasingly clear role of insurance in families' financial protection plans.
The story of Mr. Thien’s family is a testament to the practical and humane value of insurance. When an incident occurs, the most valuable thing is not just money but the ability to keep the family stable, keep hope, and have enough financial resources to fight for life. Insurance cannot prevent incidents from happening, but it can help each person move forward, protecting the whole family from unforeseen risks.
