Hanoi recorded 114 measles cases

Accumulated from 2025 to present, Hanoi recorded 327 measles cases in 29/30 districts (except Phuc Tho district), an increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Patients were distributed by age group: 36 cases under 6 months (11%); 44 cases 6-8 months (13.5%); 35 cases 9-11 months (10.7%), 64 cases 1-5 years old (19.6%), 71 cases 6-10 years old (21.7%), 77 cases over 10 years old (23.5%).

According to the Hanoi CDC, the number of measles cases this week increased compared to the previous week but remained high, mainly in people who had not been vaccinated or had not been fully vaccinated. The number of measles cases is forecast to continue to increase rapidly in the following weeks due to the need to travel and interact during the Lunar New Year holiday.

This week, Hanoi CDC continues to coordinate with relevant units to strengthen surveillance and detection of patients at decentralized medical facilities and in the community, to promptly investigate and handle cases and outbreaks, and prevent the disease from spreading widely.
On the other hand, Hanoi CDC organizes activities to monitor suspected measles rash fever, conduct epidemiological investigations, collect samples for testing of 100% of suspected cases, organize zoning, and thoroughly handle areas with patients and outbreaks according to regulations.

At the same time, the unit regularly coordinates between the health and education sectors in monitoring, preventing, and handling cases and outbreaks of measles, hand, foot, and mouth disease, chickenpox, etc. in schools; and strengthens monitoring at Spring Festivals.

In addition, the units coordinate to implement vaccination work in schools as well as review and propagate to parents to have their children fully vaccinated according to regulations.

In addition, the units propagated that people proactively get vaccinated fully and on schedule and respond to additional vaccination campaigns deployed by the health sector.

Previously, the Hanoi People's Committee issued a Plan to implement a measles vaccination campaign in Hanoi in 2025.

Accordingly, the measles vaccination campaign is being implemented for children from 6 months to under 9 months old, including children who are transient in the city. The City People's Committee requires localities and units to implement the campaign immediately, within 1 month at the latest after the vaccine is provided by the Ministry of Health.

Units and localities organize campaigns on the same day or different days from regular vaccination, depending on the number of vaccination subjects and the actual situation of the locality.

It is expected that from February 2025, vaccination will be implemented for children from 6 months to under 9 months old. In the following months, units and localities will implement vaccination for children from 6 months to under 9 months old and catch-up vaccination for children from 7 months to under 9 months old who have not been vaccinated in 100% of communes, wards and towns of 30 districts, towns and cities across the city.
