More than 100 universities have signed on to the initiative, including major public systems like Texas A&M University and the University of North Carolina, according to Reuters.

Participating schools will receive financial support and technology resources. The support package includes cloud computing credits for student training in AI and research support for related topics.

In particular, the project will provide free access to Google's paid AI tools such as an advanced version of the Gemini chatbot. This is considered a step to help students access advanced technology during their studies.

“The long-term goal is to expand the program to all accredited nonprofit universities in the U.S.,” said James Manyika, Google’s senior vice president of education. “We are also considering similar plans in other countries to promote the global spread of AI knowledge and skills.”

The move is part of Google’s efforts to maintain its leadership in AI and address the growing skills gap between the labor market’s needs and the workforce’s ability to meet them. The close cooperation with universities promises to create a new generation of technology-savvy workers ready to participate in the digital economy .
