In Bai Son commune, Do Luong district, people are planting forests for the autumn crop, however, some households are still lacking seedlings. Mr. Phan Binh's family in Bai Son commune has just finished harvesting more than 1 hectare of acacia, and is currently focusing on human resources to process the ground cover and dig holes to plant acacia. Over the past 2 weeks, Mr. Binh has only been able to plant half of the area, and has not been able to buy seedlings for the rest.

Mr. Phan Binh shared: At this time, the weather is favorable, many households after harvesting acacia then simultaneously planted forests, so there is a local shortage of seeds. The price of hybrid acacia in previous seasons was only 500 - 600 VND/tree, now it has increased to 1,000 VND/tree but it is still difficult to buy.

A representative of the People's Committee of Bai Son Commune said: The commune has nearly 300 hectares of acacia, which are exploited and replanted every 4-5 years. Compared to previous years, this year, about 40-50 hectares of new planting are exploited more, leading to a shortage of seeds.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Thuan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Do Luong district shared: In 2023, Do Luong district will plant over 600 hectares of acacia. Currently, the communes have planted over 350 hectares, the area The rest of the people are processing the ground cover, digging holes to plant trees. However, some communes are experiencing a shortage of high-quality acacia seeds. Acacia seeds in the area are mainly produced by Do Luong Forestry One Member Co., Ltd.

Mr. Phan Hong Tien - Director of Do Luong Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. said: The unit currently has 2 nurseries, annually producing over 2.5 million acacia seedlings, serving the people in Do Luong district and the communes of Quang Thanh, Thinh Thanh, Tay Thanh, Dai Thanh (Yen Thanh). This year's autumn crop alone, the unit produced over 1.5 million seedlings, but due to customers coming from all over to buy, there was not enough supply. Currently, the unit is actively taking care of the next batch of seedlings, about over 300,000 seedlings (about 1 month from now) will be available for sale.

Also in the same situation, Quy Chau district is the capital of hybrid acacia trees, but currently, hybrid acacia seedlings are also in short supply. Mr. Nguyen Sy Luan - Chairman of Chau Commune People's Committee The association shared: Chau Hoi commune has over 3,000 hectares of acacia forest, with over 200 hectares newly planted each year, but currently, only over 70% of the area has been planted. Lacking high-quality acacia seeds, the commune is having to buy them from other places, such as Binh Dinh, Dong Nai, etc., to plant. The seeds bought from other places have not been inspected, so there are concerns about their quality.

Quy Chau District is the locality with the largest area of acacia in the province, with over 21,000 hectares of raw acacia, annually exploiting and planting over 4,000 hectares. The whole district has 3 units producing seedlings: Co Ba Forestry Farm, Quy Chau Forestry Farm and Dai Lam Forest Investment and Development Cooperative. However, only enough seedlings are available for over 40% of the forest planting area, the rest are mainly bought from floating tree seedlings from all over.

According to the report of the Forestry Department, the province currently has 25 units producing and trading in seedlings (with business registration certificates), producing 30-35 million forestry seedlings of all kinds each year. However, the issue of forestry seedlings in Nghe An still has limitations such as: The province has more than 100 establishments and households producing and trading in small-scale forestry seedlings, many establishments do not register their seed production activities with the State management agency; seed sources are not invested in, cared for, managed, and protected.

Many establishments do not register their seed production activities with the State management agency, making it difficult to control seed quality. Every year, localities in Nghe An have to buy over 10 million seeds from all over the place from Binh Dinh and Dong Nai, but the quality of the seeds is not controlled.

In order to ensure the quality of seedlings, the Forestry Department recommends that localities further strengthen the management of production and trading of plant varieties, strictly manage all stages of the production chain; Strengthen propaganda for people about the use of good varieties, varieties with clear origins...
