On August 20, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to summarize the school year and deploy directions and tasks for the 2025-2026 school year.

At the conference, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu directed many "hot" issues that need to be resolved before the new school year.

Mr. Hieu said that right in the city center, there are still three schools in a state of cluttered materials and unfinished construction, including: Duc Tri Secondary School, Chu Van An Secondary School and Minh Duc Secondary School (old District 1).

"Yesterday, I directly discussed with the Chairman of the People's Committee of Cau Ong Lanh Ward. He said that these are transitional projects, previously invested by the District 1 Project Management Board (old). Now, after decentralization, the projects belong to the Regional Management Board," informed the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.

The ward chairman has pledged to closely direct the timely handling of the issue. However, school principals need to proactively report to the Department leaders and local authorities as soon as problems arise.

On August 19, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City went directly to the site to inspect, review and calculate a solution. In case the project cannot be completed in time, construction must be temporarily stopped, machinery must be cleared to create a safe and clean yard for the opening ceremony.

In addition, some other schools are still facing difficulties in terms of facilities. The Director of the Department of Education and Training added that during surveys in the old Binh Duong area, he had repeatedly noted the safety factor in schools.

Places with peeling walls, cracked tile floors, loose ceilings, damaged roofs... must all be urgently repaired.

"Anything that can affect the safety and psychology of students must be handled immediately, decisively, without hesitation," Mr. Hieu emphasized.

Chu Van An Secondary School (HCMC) on the morning of August 18 was still under construction.

Prepare carefully for the opening ceremony

Also at the conference, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu asked teachers to prepare carefully for the opening ceremony, so that the opening day of school takes place in the most orderly and meaningful way.

This year, the opening ceremony was attended and delivered a speech by the General Secretary, and the Ministry of Education and Training also coordinated to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education - the predecessor of today's Ministry of Education and Training.

Therefore, the atmosphere of this year's opening ceremony is not only an annual activity, but also associated with many important events, with profound historical and political significance. The event will take place on September 5, last about 90 minutes and will be broadcast live on VTV1 and several other channels.

Mr. Hieu emphasized: "I suggest that all schools proactively prepare all necessary conditions, from facilities to students' spirit, to ensure that they can attend the opening ceremony online or via television in the most complete way. Schools need to have detailed plans, focusing on safety factors such as canopies, projection screens, stable internet connections, to avoid students being affected by heat or bad weather."

The Director of the Department also requested the General Education Department and the Department Office to issue specific instructions to schools, and closely monitor the actual situation at each facility. If any school has difficulties with facilities such as lack of televisions, canopies or equipment for live television broadcasting, it must be reported immediately so that the Department can coordinate with local authorities to provide timely support.

"The success of the ceremony depends not only on the superiors, but also on the initiative, responsibility and creativity of the principal and the school community. I hope that we will prepare well together so that this year's opening ceremony becomes a memorable milestone, demonstrating the spirit of innovation, solidarity and strong transformation of the education sector of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general," Mr. Hieu emphasized.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that the Department of Students had made suggestions and organized many seminars to gather opinions from experts and parents about banning students from using cell phones in schools.

Last school year, some schools implemented it but it was not consistent and did not receive absolute consensus from parents.

"I suggest that the Student Affairs Department continue to consult with parents, scientists and experts to clearly analyze the pros and cons of this. In case students need to contact their families, the school must arrange a free support method. The use of phones for study purposes will be implemented according to the regulations in Circular 32/2020 of the Ministry of Education and Training," said Mr. Hieu.
