Update gold price this afternoon March 28, 2025 in the world
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 3:46 am today, Vietnam time, was at 3,072.89 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 37.18 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate, on the free market (25,960 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 97.21 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 0.99 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
Asian stock markets fell sharply on March 28 as US President Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on imported cars, starting next week. The decision raised concerns about a full-blown trade war and sent the price of safe-haven gold to a record high. Investors were nervous, especially as the global auto industry has been hit hard.
In Japan and South Korea, where autos are a major economic sector, the Nikkei fell nearly 2%, with Toyota and Honda falling, while South Korea’s main index also lost 2%. In Europe, futures on Germany’s DAX index fell 0.2%, while US markets were little changed. HSBC’s Fred Neumann said the tariffs were not a surprise and that manufacturers could adjust their supply chains or raise prices in the US to mitigate the impact.
Many carmakers such as Volvo, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai have planned to move some production, while Ferrari plans to increase car prices by up to 10%. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index fell 0.6% as investors waited for information on Trump's tariffs on China. Trump also left open the possibility of reducing tariffs if he reaches a deal with ByteDance on TikTok.
Markets are awaiting the reaction to the US retaliatory tariffs on April 2. Thierry Wizman of Macquarie said the tariffs would slow economic growth but push up inflation. The US dollar was steady ahead of the inflation report, with the core PCE index expected to rise to 2.7% in February, although the currency could fall in the quarter on concerns about the US economy.
The Japanese yen strengthened to 150.675 per dollar, up nearly 4% for the quarter on expectations of a rate hike by the Bank of Japan. Inflation in Tokyo accelerated in March, reinforcing those expectations. Meanwhile, gold hit a new high of $3,079.50 an ounce, up more than 17% year-to-date, buoyed by safe-haven demand and central bank buying. Oil prices fell slightly, with Brent at $73.85 a barrel and WTI at $69.73 a barrel, on supply concerns and the impact of tariffs.
