World gold price today April 2, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours

In the international market, the spot gold price was recorded at 3,113.7 USD/ounce, up 5.37 USD/ounce compared to the previous session. Converted at the current exchange rate, the world gold price is equivalent to about 98.99 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees), nearly 3.11 million VND/tael lower than domestic gold bars.

World gold prices continued to rise sharply, reaching an all-time high as investors sought gold as a safe asset against risks from US tariff policies. US gold futures rose 0.4% to $3,161.60.

The main reason for the rise in gold prices is the concern about the new tax plan of US President Donald Trump, expected to be announced on April 2. Investors are now turning to gold to protect their assets against the upcoming volatility. This uncertainty could continue to push the price of gold higher, with some predictions that it could reach $3,200.

In the first quarter of 2025, gold prices recorded their strongest growth since 1986, surpassing the threshold of $3,100/ounce.

In addition to tariffs, gold prices are also supported by strong buying demand from central banks, expectations that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Europe, and money flowing into gold ETFs.

Technically, gold’s RSI is above 70, indicating that the market is overbought. However, expert Tim Waterer believes that trade tensions will not subside after April 2, especially with the US preparing to impose auto tariffs on April 3.

This, along with economic uncertainty, will help gold prices maintain their appeal despite possible downside corrections. This week, US economic data such as the employment report (April 2) and non-farm payrolls (April 5) will also be in the market's attention.

While gold prices rose, silver prices fell 0.7% to $33.85 an ounce, while platinum also fell 0.8% to $984.51. Palladium prices were steady at $982.36.

Gold Price Forecast

Central banks are buying more gold not to reduce their dependence on the US dollar, but because they see gold as a safe haven asset in times of uncertainty, according to Capital Economics. This trend is driving buying and could push gold prices above $3,300 an ounce by the end of 2025.

'I expect a correction to the downside before gold reaches its target of $3,300. The correction would only become more serious if prices fall below $2,955,' said Ole Hansen, commodity strategist at Saxo Bank.

Major investment banks such as Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs all predict that gold prices will continue to rise in 2025 and beyond. Although gold prices are currently at record levels, the upward momentum shows no signs of stopping.

Each time it predicted a peak in gold prices, it continued to climb higher, said Amy Gower, a strategist at Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley predicts gold could reach $3,300 to $3,400 an ounce this year, although rapid price increases could hurt jewelry demand.

Citigroup predicts gold prices will reach $3,200 an ounce in the next few months, and could reach $3,500 if the US economy declines sharply.

Max Layton, Head of Commodities Research at Citigroup, said that US tariff policies under President Trump could boost gold prices, causing investors to seek gold as a safe haven.

Goldman Sachs also revised its 2025 gold price forecast to $3,300 an ounce, up from its previous forecast of $3,100. In a stressed market scenario, gold prices could surpass $4,200 by the end of 2025 and reach $4,500 by 2026.
