People's diplomacy helps elevate relations between Vietnam and other countries

"VUFO has actively supported foreign NGOs in administrative procedures, connecting foreign NGOs with localities, ministries and branches of Vietnam; coordinating with partners and sponsors to implement many activities and projects in localities in many fields.... In 2023, foreign NGOs contributed nearly 228 million USD to implement programs and projects in Vietnam," said Mr. Phan Anh Son, Chairman of VUFO on January 29 at the "Friendship Meeting to Welcome the Year of the Dragon - 2024".

Attending the event were Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairwoman of the Social Committee of the National Assembly, President of the Vietnam - France Friendship and Cooperation Association; Mr. Vu Hai Ha, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Van, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Foreign Affairs Committee; Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; representatives of central and local ministries, departments, branches; Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires, Chief Diplomatic Representatives, international organizations, and foreign non-governmental organizations. According to Mr. Phan Anh Son, 2023 is a pivotal year for implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Strategies and Plans for national construction and development. Under the leadership of the Party, the joint efforts and consensus of the entire political system and people, Vietnam has achieved many great achievements in socio-economic development. 2023 is also a successful year for foreign affairs when achieving many important results of historical significance, creating new breakthroughs as Vietnam continues to raise the level and upgrade relations with many countries. With solidarity, determination to innovate, be creative, overcome difficulties, with the motto "proactive, flexible, creative, effective", VUFO's people's foreign affairs work has achieved many important results in all aspects of work. The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations sent 30 delegations out, welcomed 32 delegations in, organized nearly 1,000 on-site activities both bilaterally and multilaterally, at both central and local levels. In particular, VUFO's people's foreign affairs activities in 2023 have a very close connection and effectively contribute to high-level foreign affairs activities of Party and State leaders, contributing to creating a positive social foundation to promote friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries. "The above results were achieved thanks to the attention and direction of the Party and State leaders, the guidance and coordination of ministries and branches; the solidarity and consensus of the entire Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations system, especially the attention, support and coordination of ambassadors, embassies, diplomatic missions, international organizations, foreign enterprises and foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam," Mr. Phan Anh Son emphasized. To continue promoting the achievements of 2023, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations will continue to focus on promoting and consolidating the organizational system from the central to local levels and training a team of cadres specializing in people-to-people diplomacy. VUFO will strongly innovate the thinking, approach, organization and content of people-to-people diplomacy activities, while maintaining, consolidating and expanding a strong, prestigious and extensive network of partners in the regions, expanding and effectively participating in multilateral mechanisms.
