Mr. Vu Duc Sinh - Director of Hoa Phat Container Manufacturing Joint Stock Company - said that on August 19, the company delivered 1,000 containers to shipping company CMA CGM. This is the first order between the two parties and also the first time CMA CGM has used containers manufactured by a Vietnamese enterprise.
CMA CGM is a France-based group that owns more than 650 vessels, serving 420 ports on 5 continents, transporting more than 23 million TEUs in 2024. Its subsidiary CEVA Logistics is currently one of the top 5 logistics companies in the world with 1,000 warehouses and 15 million shipments handled each year.
According to Hoa Phat, the entire batch of containers is made from SPA-H brand hot-rolled steel coils that are weather-resistant and meet all strict international standards.
Raw materials are supplied directly from Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex, helping businesses proactively manage quality and production progress.
The manufacturing process is closely monitored by CMA CGM technical staff and independent inspection organizations.
Ms. Amelie Humphreys, General Director of CMA CGM Vietnam, commented that the cooperation with Hoa Phat helps the shipping company proactively source containers right in the Vietnamese market, shorten turnaround time, optimize costs and increase flexibility in the regional logistics network.
In addition to CMA CGM, many other shipping lines and large enterprises also choose "Made in Vietnam" containers.
Hapag-Lloyd, Germany's largest container shipping company, ordered 2,000 20-foot containers from Hoa Phat's factory.
Previously, at the end of May 2025, Hoa Phat also signed a contract to supply 1,000 containers to VIMC Container Transport Joint Stock Company (VIMC Lines), a member unit of Vietnam National Shipping Lines.
Currently, Hoa Phat container factory is operating phase one with a capacity of 200,000 TEU/year, expected to increase to 500,000 TEU/year when the entire project is completed.
With this scale, Hoa Phat has become the largest container manufacturer in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, supplying products to many shipping lines and large logistics enterprises in the world.
In Vietnam, businesses such as Vinafco, Ratraco... also own their own containers, but the quantity is still modest. Previously, some businesses tried to produce containers but had to withdraw due to high costs, lack of initiative in raw materials and difficulty in meeting international standards.
