Speaking of solidarity, perhaps there are few countries that carry within themselves stories about this concept as deeply and meaningfully as Vietnam. The profundity is not only on the level of words and comments, but also echoes back from the nation’s past, associated with the nation’s destiny, especially when the nation’s survival is at its most difficult and fragile.
“Generals and soldiers are of one mind, father and son, blending the river water with a cup of sweet wine”, the sentence in Proclamation of Victory by world cultural celebrity Nguyen Trai was quoted by General Secretary To Lam in an article about solidarity, proving the underground stream that has been flowing throughout the thousands of years of building and defending the country of Vietnam. Just by reviewing the historical twists and turns, we can see that behind the heroic victories of the nation is a spirit of strong solidarity of the Vietnamese people.
So, right now, what turning point is the country facing that forces us to think about solidarity? Vietnam, if we only talk about advantages, does not have much to introduce, not to mention that these advantages are gradually losing their existing advantages. Those are, let me list them temporarily: young and cheap labor; diverse resources; favorable investment attraction environment with many incentives, and political stability... All of the above factors are not new, and in fact those values have been maximized for a long time. However, this is the time to be very realistic in assessing potential, strengths and most importantly, to see what weaknesses we need to overcome in order to hope to break through in the context of fierce competition in the world.
Only unity can bring prosperity to economic and spiritual life. Ho Chi Minh City when the lights come on. |
In response to this demand, Vietnam has just had a "major surgery" when it almost simultaneously carried out large-scale reforms, with a radical level perhaps never seen before, which were merging provinces and cities and restructuring the entire state apparatus.
Big things are of course difficult, and when they are difficult, unity is needed the most, otherwise obstacles will pile up. That is why at this turning point, or more accurately, before this historical moment, unity once again becomes the most essential factor, and it is no exaggeration to say that it is decisive for success or failure.
But how to unite to bring practical value and not just perform in form and then leave it there? There are several aspects that need special attention. First of all, there is nothing other than uniting to share the same aspirations for the development of the country. This is a prerequisite, all-encompassing and dominant condition because if there is no consensus, or only a consensus in the form of "slogans" for the common good but in reality, pursuing individual interests, it will be very difficult to have positive results. It is not by chance that the General Secretary commented, "When people know how to unite, unite, and join forces, their strength will be exponentially greater than all difficulties and dangers."
Of course, true solidarity for the common cause is not just about shouting slogans, because the next step is specific actions related to very specific fates. As everyone knows, the process of streamlining the apparatus will affect and impact many people in many positions, and, from there, many families will be affected. Overall, this will touch the interests, the most sensitive and also the most difficult to understand aspect of each person in the apparatus.
For this reason, it is impossible and should not be avoided when mentioning the issue of each individual limiting personal interests to unite together for the common good. In fact, it is obvious that each person has concerns and worries about their own interests, and there is nothing negative about it. But in each situation, each time, it is necessary to look at the pursuit of personal interests differently. In a favorable environment, pursuing legitimate personal interests will be positive because it promotes self-affirmation and competition to rise up with intelligence and capacity. However, that is on the highway, but as mentioned, if it comes to the bends, things will be different. In such turning points as the present, a long-term vision is needed if one wants to compare the public and the private.
Simply because if we do not think about and accept sacrificing personal interests (as the General Secretary mentioned in the article) in a detached mindset, it will be very difficult to move towards true solidarity for the common good. Because in the end, there is the individual, if we only cling to personal interests, it is very possible that in the end, neither the individual nor the common will have anything!
So is unity to clarify the goal of all having the same mindset, unity to put aside personal interests enough to overcome the turning point? Perhaps, that is only half the journey, because ahead is an arduous process, so the most important next step is unity to overcome the challenge.
Roses do not spread on the road by themselves. For Vietnam to develop both firmly and in depth, there are currently 4 Resolutions (the four pillars) issued by the Central Committee. These 4 Resolutions cover all key areas and need priority investment in the current period. However, to actualize the Resolution requires a lot of effort. If obstacles and barriers... appear repeatedly without the solidarity of the cadres to push back and overcome them, it will be very difficult to create leverage to help the country break through and develop.
These are very realistic prospects, because normally when faced with unexpected and prolonged difficulties, it is not easy to maintain the same consensus as at the beginning. Over time, the will is easily eroded by obstacles. Therefore, the story of solidarity here is not just in the short term, with a "deadline" but must really be throughout the entire journey of Vietnam's development.
“Unanimity from top to bottom, and smooth communication throughout” is a condition that is always valuable, and as General Secretary To Lam emphasized, this requirement has never been as important to the political system as it is now.
Therefore, uniting so that each person can express their strengths and personal aspirations, and transforming this into community strength for everyone to develop together is the inevitable direction today.
We can only build a new era, an era of prosperity, well-being and true sustainability, if we join hands in the smallest things. Therefore, let us always think of solidarity in the full sense of the word.
