According to EVNNPC, in recent years, peak electricity consumption in the summer can increase by 10-15% compared to the annual average. In 2024 alone, the peak capacity of the Northern power system at times exceeded 24,500 MW - a record number to date.
The simultaneous increase in household, production and service loads poses a major challenge to ensuring stable operation of the power system. In addition, due to the impact of the El Nino phenomenon and dependence on hydrological conditions, the ability to mobilize additional power sources still faces many difficulties. Therefore, EVNNPC has proactively deployed synchronous solutions to optimize power system operations during peak seasons.
Enhance power system operation solutions
Since the beginning of 2025, EVNNPC has requested its affiliated Power Companies to develop flexible operation plans and regularly update load situations to promptly adjust appropriate power supply plans. At the same time, the units have also been directed to prepare emergency response scenarios to minimize power supply interruptions during the peak summer season.

In addition, EVNNPC also closely coordinates with the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO) to optimize operation methods, reasonably mobilize power sources, and ensure safe and stable system operation.
EVNNPC has issued Document No. 239/EVNNPC-KT+KD on power supply solutions and Document No. 725/EVNNPC-KT on the plan to repair the power grid in the dry season. Accordingly, Power Companies must complete the repair of the 110kV power grid before March 31, 2025 to avoid affecting the mobilization of power sources during the peak of the dry season.
Speed up investment and upgrade of power grid
In order to meet the increasing load demand, EVNNPC is stepping up investment, renovation and upgrading of the power grid system. Key projects on the 110kV and 220kV power grids are being urgently implemented, especially in areas with large load growth such as key industrial zones.
The Corporation is also focusing on completing many important projects, including upgrading transformer capacity at the 110kV Thuan Chau (Son La) and 110kV Quang Uyen (Cao Bang) stations; the 220kV Phu Binh 2 Transformer Station project, the 220kV Phu Binh 2 Line branching from Thai Nguyen to Bac Giang and 04 110kV feeders after the station in Thai Nguyen province... Investment in automation systems, application of SCADA/DMS technology in remote monitoring and control is also being increased to improve the reliability of the power grid.
By the end of February 2025, EVNNPC had put into operation 06 projects according to the plan of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), reaching 5.3% of the yearly plan, creating an important premise for ensuring stable power supply in the upcoming peak months.
Actively implement electricity saving and load adjustment
To reduce pressure on the power system, EVNNPC continues to implement load adjustment (DR) programs, encouraging businesses to shift production time to off-peak hours to reduce the load on the grid.

In addition, the electricity saving program was widely launched, targeting the business community and people with specific recommendations such as adjusting production plans, limiting machine operation during peak hours; using air conditioners reasonably, setting the temperature from 26-27°C combined with fans; turning off unnecessary electrical equipment.
EVNNPC also launched a communication campaign on electricity saving in 27 northern provinces/cities to raise public awareness. Thanks to synchronous solutions, in just the first two months of 2025, EVNNPC saved 304.71 million kWh of electricity, equivalent to 2.36% of commercial electricity output, making an important contribution to reducing the load on the northern grid in the context of high load demand.
From March 26 to April 11, EVNNPC directed Power Companies to organize the 2025 Customer Conference to summarize the power supply work in 2024, update the power supply situation in 2025 and introduce power services. The conference promoted the development of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power and customer support programs in energy saving. The event is an opportunity to express gratitude and honor outstanding customers who have accompanied the power industry, affirming EVNNPC's commitment to providing stable power supply, improving service quality and moving towards sustainable development.
Ensure grid safety, prevent incidents
Along with the task of ensuring electricity supply, EVNNPC also strengthens inspection and handling of safety risks on the power grid, especially in densely populated areas and industrial parks.
EVNNPC distributes leaflets and directly advises people on safe, economical and efficient use of electricity.
The Corporation has stepped up inspections and regular maintenance of the electrical system to prevent the risk of overload and short circuits due to high temperatures. Close coordination with local authorities has been carried out to promote electrical safety and guide people on how to use electricity properly to avoid incidents. Inspections of power grid corridors and timely handling of unsafe locations are also being carried out to ensure stable system operation during the summer.
Efforts to provide stable electricity during peak season 2025
As an electricity distribution unit, EVNNPC strengthens coordination with the National Power System Dispatching Unit to closely monitor the load situation and assess the ability to balance capacity according to each operating method. At the same time, the Corporation proactively updates and promptly informs customers, the Department of Industry and Trade and the People's Committees of provinces and cities about the electricity supply situation, helping localities have appropriate adjustment plans.
EVNNPC affirms its commitment to providing sufficient electricity under normal conditions. However, during peak hours of extremely hot days – when the load increases dramatically – the Corporation calls on businesses and electricity consumers to join hands in implementing solutions to save electricity and use electricity efficiently. This is a key factor in reducing pressure on the power system, contributing to ensuring energy security and moving towards the goal of sustainable development.
