Car companies compete to promote and stimulate demand in August 2025

In August, the auto market continued to witness a series of big incentives from manufacturers to stimulate demand in a context where purchasing power has not really broken through after a sluggish first half of the year.

Many brands launch discount programs, support registration fees or give away accessories and insurance to attract customers.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), total market sales in July 2025 increased slightly compared to the previous month but were still lower than the same period in 2024, mainly due to economic pressure, interest rates on car loans have not decreased significantly, and the psychology of waiting for new stimulus policies from the government.

July is also the period when information about measures to limit the use of gasoline and oil vehicles spreads, causing shopping psychology to be somewhat hesitant.

In that context, companies are forced to increase incentives to maintain market share. Toyota Vietnam continues to maintain strong discounts for domestically assembled car models. Corolla Cross and Vios are supported with registration fees up to 100%, equivalent to 50-70 million VND depending on the version. Some dealers also directly reduce in cash, bringing the price of Vios down to below 450 million VND.

Toyota also offers a 10% discount on registration fees for Veloz Cross, equivalent to 64 million VND for the Cross CVT version and 66 million VND for the Cross VCT TOP version. Some dealers in Hanoi also offer additional discounts for customers buying Veloz Cross from 14 to 16 million VND, depending on the version.

Honda - in an unprecedented move - has supported genuine car exchanges - from now until August 31. The program applies to customers who successfully sell used Honda cars and upgrade to new Honda CR-V, CIVIC, BR-V, HR-V cars at genuine distributors, with corresponding support levels of 30 million VND for CR-V and Civic, 20 million VND for HR-V and BR-V.

For its part, Ford offers 100% registration fee for Ranger Sport and Ranger Wildtrak, while Ranger Raptor, XLS (4x2 and 4x4) are offered 50% registration fee discount.

Ford Everest Titanium 4x4 is given 2 years of physical insurance and Vietmap camera. According to research, some Ford dealers also heavily discount Territory, in the context that this model is just over a week away from having a new version with many valuable upgrades.

Korean representative Hyundai is also not out of the race, when giving 100% registration fee for Santa Fe and Palisade, giving 50% registration fee for the remaining models in the product catalog in Vietnam.

In the Chinese car group, Geely supports 50% of the registration fee for Coolray; gives away portable chargers and home chargers (with installation) for the newly launched EX5 electric car. The company's high-end SUV, Monjaro, is discounted by VND100 million. Meanwhile, Lynk & Co this month offers a strong incentive for the newly launched 01 Hyper model, when giving away 50% of the registration fee and 1 year of body insurance (from Tasco Insurance).

In the electric vehicle segment, VinFast continued to promote the program of exchanging gasoline cars for electric cars in August, along with traditional incentives for cars such as free charging until June 30, 2027. VinFast car buyers registering for Hanoi license plates are supported with installment loans of up to 70-80% of the car price for a maximum period of up to 8 years (according to each bank's own policy). Customers are also supported with an additional 3% interest rate/year compared to the normal interest rate for the first 3 years.

Analysts say that the wave of promotions in August is not only to stimulate short-term demand but also to prepare for the end of the year - the peak shopping season. This is also a pivotal time for companies to adjust inventory, paving the way for new products to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2025. If missed, the pressure on year-end inventory will be very high.

To ensure effective anticipation of the annual shopping sprint in the final months of the year, many car manufacturers are also taking this opportunity to significantly expand their dealership systems. Geely said it now has 24 dealerships nationwide, of which 7 have just come into operation.

For its part, along with the launch of two upgraded Touareg versions, Highline and R-Line, Volkswagen also opened 5 more dealerships, including the first 4S dealership in Thanh Hoa.

In general, fierce competition between car manufacturers promises a very exciting year-end business period, in which buyers, if cleverly balanced, can effectively take advantage of incentives for their own needs.
