The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has left Hanoi for Thailand to prepare for the 2025 World Volleyball Championship. The tournament will kick off on August 22, and the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will play their first match against Poland on August 23.
After the match with Poland, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team will face Germany (August 25) and Kenya (August 27). This is the first time we have participated in the world championship. Expectations for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team are very high.
We went through some mental and professional upheavals before the tournament started. However, the team's preparation was still very good and the whole team was full of desire to do great things.

Changes before the opening time
The Vietnamese women's volleyball team in particular and Vietnamese volleyball in general have experienced significant changes in recent days.
Regarding the general situation of Vietnamese volleyball, we encountered unfortunate events at the U21 Women's World Cup, held in Indonesia a few days ago. At that time, the Vietnam U21 Women's Volleyball team was unexpectedly disqualified by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for 4 out of 5 group stage matches.
The reason comes from some new regulations of FIVB appearing for the first time. The Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team therefore suffered a disadvantage. From second place in the group, participating in the round of 16, we suddenly dropped to the bottom of the group, forced to play 3 more matches from the 17th - 24th classification stage, before finishing 19th overall.
As for the personal affairs of the Vietnamese women's national volleyball team, right before the team left for Thailand to participate in the world championship, key player Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen suddenly asked to withdraw from the team.

In a letter released after announcing her withdrawal, Bich Tuyen shared: “The reason I made this decision is not because of a lack of desire to compete, but because of the new requirements from the International Volleyball Federation regarding the competition conditions of athletes. For me, sport is not only about competition but also about respect and fairness.
I feel that these regulations lack the necessary fairness to the athletes. I believe that every athlete deserves to compete in an environment of respect and equality.”
“To protect my integrity and avoid unnecessary risks for the Vietnamese team, I have decided to withdraw. I will spend this time focusing on training and preparing for future tournaments. I believe that with the best preparation, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will still compete with all their might and achieve new successes,” Bich Tuyen added.
The general story of the domestic volleyball village, the personal story of the Vietnamese team more or less affects the remaining athletes. However, with a very high spirit, combined with the desire to show their progress, the Vietnamese team is still determined to create a surprise at the world championship.
Positive signs in preparation
To prepare for the upcoming world championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has two "warm-up" matches with very high-quality opponents, including Spain and Kenya.

Therefore, when competing with the European representative Spain, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team not only has the opportunity to improve their skills and adapt to the great pressure created by the opponent, but our girls also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the playing style of European teams.
This familiarization will be useful for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, when we face two other representatives from Europe, Poland and Germany, at the world championship.
The remaining opponent in the preparation of the Vietnamese women's team is Kenya, the representative from Africa. Interestingly, Kenya is also the final opponent of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in the group stage of the world championship.
Although it is known that both the Vietnamese women's team and the Kenyan women's team "hidden their cards" in the friendly match that took place on the evening of August 19, in Hanoi . However, the fact that the Vietnamese women's team beat Kenya 4-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-19) reflects that we have enough strategy and ability to overcome this opponent in the world championship.
From there, the opportunity for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to find at least one victory at the world tournament in the coming days is very high.
The match with Kenya was also a very special match. After the two sides played to the third set and the Vietnamese women's team won all three sets, the match did not stop. The Kenyan side wanted to play one more set, with the purpose of "testing" the endurance and flexibility of their athletes and the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.
As a result, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team continued to overcome this challenge. This proves that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team also has a plan to replace Bich Tuyen. The proof is that when Bich Tuyen withdrew, we still did not significantly weaken in terms of expertise.
Waiting for the remaining prominent faces
In fact, before Bich Tuyen emerged at SEA V-League 2025, Vietnamese women's volleyball still had an extremely excellent main attacker, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. This girl has an extremely good height (1m93), is very strong and has good technique in attacking the net.
Thanh Thuy has a wealth of international competition experience, including playing time in leading volleyball countries in Asia such as Thailand (Bangkok Glass Club in 2015-2016), Japan (Denso Airybees Club, from 2019 - 2020 and PFU BlueCats Club, from 2021 - 2024), and competing in Europe, in Turkey (Kuzeyboru Club, in 2024).
Rich experience competing abroad will help Thanh Thuy easily adapt to different playing styles of different opponents, coming from different schools at the world championship.
Thanks to her good experience, Thanh Thuy will have confidence and calmness in the difficult times that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will have to face. From there, Thanh Thuy can transmit this confidence and calmness to her teammates around her.
In addition to Thanh Thuy, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has two more faces, ranked in the top 100 best female volleyball players in the world recently, including Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Khanh Dang.
Regarding libero Nguyen Khanh Dang, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet once commented: “She is the best libero of Vietnamese women's volleyball today. Khanh Dang is sharp and has good defense ability. We are always very confident when Khanh Dang is on the field.”
If Thanh Thuy is expected to be the one to launch the ball smashes, finish the attacks of the Vietnamese women's team, helping us score points, then Khanh Dang will be the one to save the ball, save the team. This is the detail that helps the Vietnamese women's team to be harmonious in both attack and defense.
