The Vietnamese women's volleyball team suffered a loss of strength before the World Championship when Bich Tuyen, the number 1 "scoring machine", will not be joining the team to compete in Thailand.
On her personal page this afternoon, August 19, Bich Tuyen shared: “Today, Tuyen would like to announce that she will not participate in the upcoming World Championship. This is a decision that Tuyen has carefully considered and received respect from the Coaching Board and the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.
The reason Tuyen made this decision was not because of a lack of desire to compete, but because of new requirements from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) regarding the competition conditions of athletes.
For Tuyen, sports are not only about competition but also about respect and fairness. Tuyen feels that these regulations lack transparency and the necessary fairness towards athletes.
Tuyen believes that every athlete deserves to compete in an environment of respect and equality.
To protect her own integrity and avoid unnecessary risks for the team, Tuyen decided to withdraw.
Tuyen will spend this time focusing on practicing, preparing for future tournaments.
Tuyen believes that with the best preparation, the Vietnamese team will still compete with all their might and achieve new successes.
Once again, Tuyen would like to thank everyone. Tuyen hopes to continue to support her teammates in the upcoming tournament."
The absence of Bich Tuyen is a big loss for the Vietnamese women's team.
The 2000-born setter is in great form and has always been the top scorer for his team in recent international tournaments.
In the second leg of SEA V.League 2025, Bich Tuyen played explosively, scoring 45 points in the final match against Thailand, thereby contributing greatly to helping the team win the championship.
Bich Tuyen also received the MVP title - "Best All-round Player" and "Best Opposite Passer" in this match.
Previously, Bich Tuyen was also the one who scored the most points and received the title of "Best Opposite Setter" at VTV Cup and Asian Volleyball Cup.
Without Bich Tuyen, the Vietnamese women's team will face difficulties in the matches against Poland (August 23), Germany (August 25) and Kenya (August 27) in the group stage of the 2025 World Cup.
However, the World Championship is also a valuable opportunity for the Vietnamese women's team to compete in a high-class playground, approach and compete with major volleyball teams, thereby accumulating experience, developing expertise to prepare for the biggest goal of the year, the 33rd SEA Games.
