6-year-old boy in Quang Ngai escapes danger thanks to iron nail removed from stomach

Afternoon of March 30, Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital said that after removing a 3cm long iron nail from the duodenum, a 6-year-old boy in Minh Long District (Quang Ngai) is in stable health.

This boy was taken to the hospital by his family with severe vomiting, sore throat and abdominal pain.

According to family members, while playing with friends, the boy accidentally swallowed a 3cm long iron nail. The family was worried that the child was showing signs of deterioration so they took him to the hospital for emergency treatment.

On the evening of March 29, after examination and X-ray, doctors discovered and confirmed that there was a foreign object in the boy's digestive tract. After that, doctors performed anesthesia and resuscitation, and performed procedures to remove the foreign object.

To remove the foreign object, doctors used a gastrointestinal endoscopy method to remove the foreign object in the boy's duodenum. The foreign object was identified as a 3 cm long iron nail.

The boy's health is now stable and he is being monitored and treated at the hospital's Pediatric Gastroenterology Department.

Previously, in early February 2024, a 2-year-old child in Di Lang Town (Son Ha District, Quang Ngai) swallowed a 2.5 cm long nail while playing.

When the child was brought to the hospital, doctors successfully removed the nail from the child's abdomen.

According to the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital of Quang Ngai province, recently doctors here have successfully treated many foreign objects in the digestive tract of many people such as iron nails, toothpicks, etc.
