During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh advised the Border Guards to “rely on the people, strive to unite and help the people”. Imbued with his teachings , the Border Guards of Quang Ninh province have had many practical models and actions to help people in border and island areas , demonstrating the responsibility of soldiers in green uniforms, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous border.

“Staying at sea with fishermen” is a model of learning and following Uncle Ho that Tran Island Border Guard Station has been implementing since January 2023. Standing on the island outpost of the Fatherland, the unit's officers and soldiers not only perform well the task of managing and protecting the sovereignty and security of the sea and island border, but also regularly care for and provide timely support, becoming a solid support for fishermen to confidently go out to sea.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Cuong, Political Commissar of Tran Island Border Guard Station, said: Learning and following Uncle Ho, closely following the characteristics of the area, the officers and soldiers of the unit always promote a high sense of responsibility, especially in training, combat readiness, rescue and relief. At the same time, regularly promote propaganda and dissemination of legal regulations when exploiting and catching seafood and raising legal awareness, natural disaster prevention for fishermen; pay attention to creating conditions to help people in the coastal and island border areas to develop socio-economy.

Implementing the model "Staying at sea with fishermen", the unit has organized propaganda, dissemination and legal education for over 1,520 people, distributed over 500 leaflets, 420 national flags, guided 96 vehicle owners to write a commitment not to violate foreign waters to illegally exploit aquatic products; registered and controlled 152 vehicles and 427 fishermen coming to the fishing area.

The unit coordinated with functional agencies and armed forces on the island to propagate and mobilize over 300 ships and boats, 1,260 fishermen working at sea to avoid monsoons and storms, and successfully rescued 4 fishermen in distress at sea. Through the model, fishermen not only go offshore and stick to the sea to develop the economy, but also become an important force accompanying border guards to protect the sovereignty of the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Learning and following Uncle Ho, based on the nature of the work, officers and soldiers on duty at the border gate regularly contact and handle entry and exit procedures for thousands of people and foreign tourists. The Party Committee and Command of the Mong Cai International Border Gate Border Guard Station have built the image of a friendly, loyal, civilized, polite border guard soldier, promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. From there, they leave a good impression on people and tourists, contributing to bringing the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends, attracting investment and developing the economy and society.

This is just one of many models and creative ways of learning and following Uncle Ho that the green-uniformed soldiers have effectively implemented, with all their love and responsibility towards the people in the border and island areas. Many models have been comprehensively and synchronously deployed throughout the Border Guard force and have brought about great results, such as the programs "The Army joins hands to build new rural areas", "Warm homes for the poor in the border and island areas", "Accompanying women in the border areas", "Border Spring - Warming the hearts of the villagers", "Helping children go to school" and "Adopted children of border guards"...

Through many forms of mobilization, in the period of 2019-2024, the Provincial Border Guard presided over and coordinated with provincial departments, branches, unions, enterprises, and philanthropists to support and build 90 houses and civil works worth over 4.1 billion VND, presented over 3,500 gifts worth over 3.8 billion VND; examined and distributed medicine to thousands of people, presented over 35,000 national flags and 32,000 photos of Uncle Ho to people in border and island areas; sponsored 111 students in difficult circumstances in border areas with a support amount of over 3 billion VND...

The above models and methods are the concretization of learning and following Uncle Ho, contributing to brightening the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the northeastern region of the Fatherland.
