According to images discovered in iOS 26 beta 6, Apple seems to be preparing to launch a Live Translation feature for the AirPods line of headphones, allowing users to easily translate live conversations.
Specifically, an image file in the system shows an image of AirPods with the word “Hello” written in multiple languages. More notably, the image also suggests that the feature will be activated by double-tapping the headphones. The file itself is named “Translate,” a clear indication that Apple is developing a separate gesture to launch the translation feature.

MacRumors said that 9to5Mac was the first to discover and report on this image. This information also reinforces previous predictions by Bloomberg expert Mark Gurman. Before iOS 26 was announced, Gurman confirmed that AirPods would be equipped with a translation feature for live conversations.
It makes sense for Apple to bring this feature to AirPods. iOS 26 already supports Live Translate in the Phone, Messages, and FaceTime apps. Expanding this feature to live conversations through the headphones would complete Apple’s translation ecosystem, making AirPods an even more powerful communication tool.

Based on leaked images, the feature is said to be compatible with AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 models.
One thing to note is that the Live Translate feature is currently tied to Apple Intelligence, so you'll likely need an iPhone model that supports Apple Intelligence to use this feature on AirPods.
The Live Translate feature for AirPods is likely to be released with the official version of iOS 26 or in a later software update. This promises to be a powerful tool, helping users communicate confidently and bridge the language gap in daily life.
