STROKE IS DIFFERENT FROM SUDDEN DEATH DUE TO CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Dr. Ngo Tuan Anh, Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, 108 Central Military Hospital, said: "Stroke" is a disease caused by cerebrovascular disease; "sudden death" is death due to cardiovascular disease.
Stroke is often referred to as "cerebral stroke" or "cerebrovascular accident". This is a condition in which the brain is irreversibly damaged (permanently dysfunctional) due to lack of timely blood supply. There are two types of stroke: hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic stroke.
In which, hemorrhagic stroke (or stroke due to ruptured cerebral blood vessels) occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, causing blood to spill into or around the brain.
Ischemic stroke (or ischemic stroke or stroke due to vascular occlusion) occurs due to thrombus (blood clot), atherosclerosis, causing blockage or obstruction of blood flow and nutrients to nourish brain cells.
Many cases of stroke cause loss of consciousness, deep coma and lead to rapid death.
