11 earthquakes in one day in Kon Tum

(Dan Tri) - Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province has just recorded 11 consecutive earthquakes. The strongest one had a magnitude of 3.8, causing tremors in Kon Plong District and neighboring areas.


On November 26, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center (Institute of Geophysics) issued a notice recording 11 earthquakes occurring in nearly one day in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.

The first earthquake occurred at 2:22 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.8 and a focal depth of about 8.1 km. Disaster risk level 0.

The earthquakes that followed had magnitudes ranging from 2.7 to 3.7.

People in the epicenter and neighboring districts often felt the shaking caused by the earthquake (Photo: Pham Hoang).

Mr. Nguyen Van Son (Mang Den town, Kon Plong district) shared: "At around 2am, my family was sleeping when we felt strong shaking caused by the earthquake. After that, my family also felt shaking but it was lighter."

According to Mr. Son, in Kon Plong district, everyone often feels tremors. When earthquakes cause strong tremors, people are also confused and worried about the safety of the structures.

In recent days, Kon Plong district has continuously recorded earthquakes.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake in Kon Plong district was a stimulated earthquake, due to the water accumulation process of the hydroelectric reservoir affecting the active fault system below, causing the earthquake to occur earlier than the natural law.
