11 foreign sailors in distress at sea in Con Dao returned home safely

On February 29, 11 crew members of the SAMUDRA INDAH II ship that was in distress at sea were handed over by the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to return home.

The crew members, including 10 Indonesian and 1 Malaysian, were handed over to the Consulate Generals of Indonesia and Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City. Representatives of the Consulate Generals of the two countries and the injured crew members expressed their gratitude to the Vietnamese authorities for their efforts in the search and rescue operations and care for the crew members.

After the handover ceremony, the Border Guard authorities of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province completed entry procedures for 11 crew members and coordinated and organized the early repatriation of the crew members to reunite with their families.

According to the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the ship SAMUDRA INDAH II (call sign 9WVV, Malaysian nationality) carrying 66 containers of rice (about 1,500 tons of rice) and 15 crew members, departed from My Thoi, An Giang province to Pontiarak port, Indonesia. On January 29, when arriving at an area about 20 nautical miles northeast of Con Dao, the ship suffered a water leak on its left side, causing it to sink and was discovered by the fishing boat BTh-97171TS captained by Mr. Nguyen Duc Thu (born in 1979, Binh Thuan ).

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Tam, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Border Guard, said that immediately after receiving the information, the Command notified the relevant forces to coordinate the search and rescue. At the same time, it directed the Con Dao Border Guard Station to immediately notify the vehicles operating near the above area to assist in the search for the missing crew member.

The crew members were quickly rescued and taken to Ben Dam port (Con Dao district) for medical care. Currently, the crew members are in stable health, ensuring they can return home safely.

On the morning of June 12, SAR 412 ship brought sailor Nguyen Tien Sy, who was in distress at sea, back to Da Nang safely and handed him over to the authorities according to regulations.
