YouTube takes tough action against ad blocker users

Many YouTube users have reported seeing the video screen go black for a few seconds when using ad blockers.

Notably, this wait time is said to be equivalent to the typical ad duration on the platform.

When users inquired about the cause, YouTube directed them to Google's support page, where the platform blamed browser extensions, specifically ad blockers.

YouTube recommends users test by opening the video in incognito mode with all extensions disabled.

This isn't YouTube's first move to curb the use of ad blockers. Since 2023, the platform has been taking steps to prevent users from skipping ads.

Previously, on forums like Reddit, many users also reported other problems when using ad blockers. Some videos automatically fast-forwarded to the end, while others experienced audio loss, even when users tried to adjust the volume.

Google, YouTube's parent company, has also been accused of intentionally slowing down video loading or pausing playback, along with requests to turn off ad blockers.

These tough measures by YouTube are said to be aimed at protecting the platform's main source of revenue, which is heavily dependent on advertising. Limiting ad blockers helps optimize the company's business efficiency.

However, these moves have received mixed reactions from the user community.

Many people think that YouTube is inserting too many ads and using every way to force users to sign up for paid service packages.

Frustration even grew as some users who subscribed to the YouTube Premium Lite package, and even the full Premium package, still reported having to watch ads.

YouTube explained that these could be promotional content to introduce promotions, but this explanation did not satisfy users, who believe that a paid service should not have any ads.
