Mr. Vu Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, said: The whole province has 74 association bases, more than 2,190 branches, with over 170,000 members. Associations at all levels integrate studying and following Uncle Ho into regular activities, associated with the movements "Good farmers in production and business" and "Helping each other get rich, reducing poverty sustainably". Since the beginning of the year, associations at all levels have trained and transferred science and technology to 15,000 members, implemented 17 models and projects; organized 1,650 legal dissemination sessions, raised awareness, effectively resolved many complaints, and ensured the rights of members.
Implementing Uncle Ho's teachings on solidarity and mutual love, Farmers' Associations at all levels have connected preferential capital sources through entrustment with the Social Policy Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, with a total outstanding loan balance of over 3,000 billion VND in the province, over 8,600 households are borrowing capital; the Farmers' Support Fund reached over 79 billion VND, supporting 248 projects for nearly 1,950 households. From capital sources, helping farmer members build effective and widely replicated economic models, such as: Coffee growing model in Hun village, Chieng Coi ward; organic green pear in Van Ho commune; orange growing in Muong Sai commune... with an income of 200-300 million VND/year, contributing to improving living standards and sustainable rural development.
Through the introduction of the Farmers' Association of Muong Chien commune, we visited the comprehensive model of more than 3 hectares of Mr. Lo Van Thinh, Co Lang village. Mr. Thinh shared: In 2015, realizing that the climate and soil were suitable, I renovated the land to grow chayote for shoots. Thanks to the correct application of techniques, each crop I harvested more than 3 tons of shoots, selling for 15,000 VND/kg, bringing stable income and creating seasonal jobs for 3 local workers with 200,000 VND/day. By 2020, the family was facilitated by the Farmers' Association to borrow 50 million VND from the Bank for Social Policies to invest in building 7 pig pens. Each year, 2 batches (more than 20 pigs/batch) are produced, with a selling price of 100,000-120,000 VND/kg. Waste is composted into organic fertilizer for the chayote garden, helping to reduce production costs and protect the environment. After deducting costs, the model generates a profit of more than 300 million VND/year.
In Quynh Nhai commune, the Commune Farmers' Association has focused on supporting farmer members to apply new techniques, transform production structures, build effective livestock, crop and aquaculture models. A typical example is Mr. Phi Hai Van, Pa Uon village, raising sturgeon on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir. Mr. Van said: In 2024, I switched to concentrated, high-quality sturgeon farming, with 9 cages, more than 7,000 fish. I also actively learned from effective models, participated in training, read books and newspapers to improve care and disease prevention techniques. After more than 1 year, my family harvested 20 tons of fish, sold for 180,000 VND/kg, earning more than 700 million VND.
Learning and following Uncle Ho's example through specific and practical actions has helped Son La farmers become rich, form many effective economic models, improve their lives and contribute to building new rural areas in the locality.
