Vietnam supports efforts to improve the effectiveness of United Nations operations.

On May 12 and 19, at the United Nations headquarters (New York), there were sessions to introduce and discuss the UN80 Initiative - a proposal to reform the United Nations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the organization's founding.

The event attracted the attention and participation of many Ambassadors and Heads of Delegations of United Nations member countries.

In his opening remarks, Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the urgency of reform to strengthen the United Nations' response to global challenges in the new context.

The UN chief called on member states to support the implementation of the UN80 Initiative, which focuses on three main areas: improving operational efficiency through cost-saving measures, streamlining the apparatus and reducing duplication. Reviewing the implementation of tasks assigned by member states. Identifying structural and programmatic adjustments within the UN system.

Speaking at the discussion session, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, affirmed that Vietnam always supports initiatives to improve the efficiency and cohesion of the United Nations system, helping to better meet the needs of member states.

Emphasizing that Vietnam has long been actively responding to and taking the lead in participating in UN reform efforts, typically in implementing the “Delivering as One” initiative in Vietnam, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang said that the UN80 Initiative needs to ensure a comprehensive and synchronous approach, taking into account other reform processes being discussed at the United Nations.

The Head of the Vietnamese Delegation affirmed that member countries need to play a central role in discussing and promoting the implementation of the UN80 Initiative, thereby ensuring sustainability, transparency and conformity with the interests of the international community.
