On August 27, at the program "Understanding liver cancer correctly" organized by K Hospital, Dr. Lai Phu Thai Son, Deputy Head of Tan Trieu Examination Department (K Hospital) said that liver cancer has surpassed lung cancer and is the leading cancer in our country with nearly 26,500 cases/year, accounting for 14.5% of the total number of cancer cases.

Liver cancer is also the cancer with the highest number of deaths, with over 25,200 cases per year, accounting for 21% of all cancer deaths. Notably, up to 77% of liver cancer cases are men. Meanwhile, the symptoms of liver cancer are often atypical and easily overlooked, so most patients come to see a doctor, detect the disease and treat it when it is in the late stages, making treatment difficult and costly.

To prevent and detect liver cancer early, medical experts recommend that people should have regular health check-ups and liver ultrasounds every 6 months, especially those with high risk factors such as cirrhosis, chronic alcoholic hepatitis, viral hepatitis B and C.
