China maintains orange alert for heavy rain and high temperatures

From 2:00 p.m. on July 14 to 2:00 p.m. on July 15, heavy rain will occur in many areas in Shaanxi, Sichuan, Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Inner Mongolia.

Some areas will experience localised heavy rainfall with hourly rainfall of up to 80mm or more, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. NMC advises local authorities to take appropriate response measures and check drainage systems in urban areas, agricultural areas and aquaculture ponds.

On July 14, temperatures in some areas of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi and Guangdong could reach 35 degrees Celsius.

NMC forecasts that the highest temperature in some areas will range from 37 to 39 degrees Celsius. In extreme hot weather conditions, people should limit outdoor activities and take precautions to protect children, the elderly and vulnerable groups.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. For high temperature warnings, China uses a three-tier system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange and yellow.
