The National Assembly Standing Committee has sent a document to National Assembly deputies on adding two contents to the agenda of the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly.

One is to continue the investment policy for the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project. The other is to supplement the 2024 State budget expenditure estimates for ministries, central agencies and localities to implement the basic salary level as prescribed in Decree No. 73 of the Government.

According to the supplementary program, the National Assembly will listen to the presentation and examination report of the above two contents at the afternoon session on November 27, after the National Assembly's discussion in the hall on the draft Law on Special Consumption Tax (amended) ends.

The National Assembly Standing Committee also said it would direct the Secretary General of the National Assembly to seek opinions from National Assembly deputies on the above two contents.

Previously, the Central Conference on the morning of November 25 basically agreed on the policy of restarting the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project and continuing to research the Nuclear Power Program in Vietnam.

This aims to firmly ensure national energy security, meet socio-economic development goals, enhance scientific and technological potential and sustainable national development.

The Central Committee assigned the Politburo to direct relevant agencies and localities to research and develop a project to develop nuclear power in Vietnam in the coming time.

In the immediate future, the Central Government believes that it is necessary to continue studying the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant Project and report to competent authorities for consideration and decision.

Concluding the Central Conference, General Secretary To Lam said that the Central Executive Committee highly agreed with the policy of restarting the Nuclear Power Program in Vietnam and continuing to study the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project.

The General Secretary stressed that this is an important task to develop the national energy infrastructure, meeting the requirements of national development. This work needs to be carried out urgently, meeting the highest requirements of ensuring safety and environmental protection.

The Central Executive Committee assigned the Politburo to direct agencies to urgently and synchronously implement solutions to complete the national energy infrastructure, meeting the country's development requirements in the new situation.

On the afternoon of November 12, before answering questions from National Assembly deputies, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reported an overview of the socio-economic situation in the first 10 months of 2024.

In particular, the Prime Minister said that the Government proposed to the competent authority to restart the nuclear power project. The Government reported to the Politburo for approval on the policy of restarting nuclear power; submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and amendment of the Electricity Law to create institutional breakthroughs, remove obstacles, and develop power sources and grids.
