From early morning, the crowd of people visiting President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum was already crowded. Outside the Mausoleum, people stood solemnly to watch the flag-raising ceremony, expressing their respect and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh – the great leader who made many contributions to the cause of fighting, liberating the nation, and unifying the country.
Ba Dinh Square is a popular attraction for locals and tourists on the nation’s important anniversary. In the joyful atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, many people come here with the desire to take a commemorative “check-in” photo, helping to remember the heroic history of the nation to have the peace like today.
Khuat Anh Khang from Nam Dinh shared that since the evening of April 29, he and his family have been in Hanoi to join in the atmosphere of celebrating the country's important holiday. "Since 6am, my family and I have been to Ba Dinh Square to watch the flag-raising ceremony and lined up to visit Uncle Ho's Mausoleum. I want my children to remember this beautiful moment, remember the history of the nation to be grateful for what they have today," Khang said.
At the Hoa Lo Prison relic, from more than 8am, the line of people lining up to buy tickets to visit the relic was very long. To celebrate the great national holiday, many families and groups of visitors wore red flags with yellow stars, holding the national flag and the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam to express their joy.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Hanh (Dong Da, Hanoi) shared that during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, she and her family decided to stay in Hanoi to have fun. “I took my children to visit historical sites, including Hoa Lo Prison, so that they could better understand the history of the nation and appreciate the value of peace and independence,” Ms. Hanh expressed.
At the Thang Long Imperial Citadel heritage site, on the very day of national joy, thousands of tourists came to visit the exhibition “The Road to Unity” at the D67 Building and “check-in” at the Hanoi Flag Tower. In addition, visitors can also watch free water puppet shows.
Head of the Tour Guide - Interpretation Department (Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center - Hanoi) Nguyen Minh Thu said that the unit has welcomed a large number of tourists to have fun and experience. The atmosphere of the happy unification day was jubilant and bustling. Many groups of visitors wore red shirts with yellow stars, holding flags, creating a lively and proud picture.
According to the reporter of Hanoi Moi Newspaper , at museums such as: Ho Chi Minh Museum, Vietnam Military History Museum, Air Defense - Air Force Museum, Vietnam History Museum... there are many people and tourists visiting. Most of them share the same desire to go to the museum to review the heroic history of the nation through the difficult struggles to have the day of national reunification.
Spreading national spirit
In the joyful atmosphere of the whole country celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, many people expressed their pride and emotion. The spirit of national pride was spread from the people themselves in many different ways.
Ms. Doan Thi Diem Hang, an employee of a logistics company in Hanoi, shared that the women in the company had prepared for many days in red flag-yellow-star costumes and made an appointment after the parade to go to the foot of the Hanoi Flag Tower to perform the flag-raising ceremony and take souvenir photos. As for Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga's family, they also prepared red flags with yellow stars, flowers and flags of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam to join the joyful crowd at the historic Ba Dinh Square to celebrate the great national holiday.
Also this morning, the Hanoi Department of Tourism coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection Command to provide drinking water, milk, and bread to those visiting the Mausoleum.
Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said that giving gifts to people and tourists visiting Uncle Ho's Mausoleum is a meaningful activity, showing the affection and responsibility in the service, reception and propaganda work of each cadre, employee and soldier on duty at Uncle Ho's Mausoleum; contributing to promoting the work of propaganda, studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
This is an annual activity between units to convey the sentiments of Hanoi city to the people of the whole country and tourists coming to Hanoi to visit Uncle Ho's Mausoleum, and at the same time spread the image of Hanoi tourism as a "Safe - Friendly - Quality - Attractive" destination.
According to the 2025 plan, units will prepare 110,000 gifts for compatriots and tourists visiting Uncle Ho's Mausoleum on major holidays. Specifically: on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1), 50,000 gifts will be prepared; on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19), 25,000 gifts will be prepared; and on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2), 35,000 gifts will be prepared.
Thus, it can be seen that on the first day of the April 30 and May 1 holidays, historical and tourist sites in Hanoi welcomed a large number of visitors. The joyful and happy atmosphere spread everywhere, from public entertainment venues to historical revolutionary sites.
