At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure at meeting again with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, a close friend of the Vietnamese National Assembly, and thanked IPU Secretary General Chungong for his affection and support for the country, people and National Assembly of Vietnam, contributing to promoting the Vietnam - IPU cooperation relationship.

Affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to the role of the IPU and multilateralism, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Vietnam has actively participated in and contributed responsibly to IPU activities, notably the successful hosting of the 132nd IPU Assembly in 2015 in Hanoi and the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians in 2023 in Hanoi, with important contributions from the IPU Secretary General. The National Assembly Chairman asked the IPU Secretary General to support Vietnam in hosting future IPU events.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman proposed that both sides actively implement the IPU Action Strategy for the 2022-2026 period, focusing on innovation and digital transformation in parliamentary activities; and requested that the IPU continue to support Vietnam in policy and professional advice in promoting and monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The National Assembly Chairman informed about Vietnam's achievements and new policies, especially its readiness to exempt all tuition fees for students from kindergarten to public high school in 2025-2026; focusing on innovation and digital transformation in parliamentary activities, aiming to increase the efficiency and participation of people in the legislative process.

IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong shared his deep feelings for Vietnam; especially thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly for always accompanying the IPU in successfully implementing programs, strategies and priority activities, especially the hosting of the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015 with the historic Hanoi Declaration, helping the IPU become the first international organization to mention the Sustainable Development Goals and the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians in 2023 with the Declaration on "The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation". Notably, it affirmed the role of culture as a driving force for sustainable development, committed to protecting and promoting cultural diversity, affirming the role of culture and cultural diversity in the process of solving challenges facing humanity today.

The IPU Secretary General emphasized that he listened attentively to the speech of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and expressed his admiration for the achievements of the country and the Vietnamese National Assembly; highly appreciated Vietnam's proposals for IPU activities and multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation in general.

Secretary General Martin Chungong affirmed to continue to support and assist the Vietnamese National Assembly in building multilateral parliamentary diplomacy capacity, applying science and technology in its work as well as continuing to play an increasingly active role and contribute to the IPU. He thanked and appreciated Vietnam's readiness to host important IPU activities in the future.

The two sides agreed to closely coordinate to further promote Vietnam-IPU cooperation in the coming time.

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully invited the IPU Secretary General to visit Vietnam again in the near future and IPU President Martin Chungong happily accepted the invitation.
