Tieu Minh Phung said he was moved when singing "Proud to be Vietnamese".

On August 22, Footprints on Fire - a community project by Tieu Minh Phung, praising the Vietnam People's Public Security and the soldiers who died for their homeland, was launched.

Nearly 30 artists from the North and South sang together in this MV.

Tieu Minh Phung is happy to sing on an important national occasion.

Tieu Minh Phung shared with Tuoi Tre Online that he has performed on many stages, but when he stood and sang on the big My Dinh stage with 30,000 spectators on the days when the whole country celebrated an important holiday, the feeling was very special.

"I am proud to be immersed in the heroic atmosphere of the country and to be a part of the Vietnamese Fatherland. Thank you for the sacrifices of our ancestors so that today we can live in peace and proudly hold our heads high with the two words Vietnam," he shared.

The song " North, Central and South One House" was performed in a traditional Vietnamese style, with traditional songs on a lively rap background. The live audience excitedly waved their hands and swayed to the music.

On social media, there are mixed opinions about the song. Critics say they can't hear the lyrics clearly and don't understand the genre of music.

People praised and encouraged: "You'll get used to it if you practice listening", "Just listen to good music and you don't need to worry about what genre it is. Music is now mixed in many creative and interesting ways but still retains the essence of Western folk music", "It's great to combine ethnic music".

Efforts to connect youth and traditional music

As for Tieu Minh Phung, he said: "When I sang vọng cổ on rap music in front of 30,000 people, it was really great." Phung said that Bac Trung Nam mot nha had been written before. When I came to the show Proud to be Vietnamese, I edited the lyrics a bit to make it more suitable.

"I receive opinions from many audiences and always listen and learn. But I still choose to follow the path of reformed opera combined with rap," he said.

Tieu Minh Phung was born in 1997, from Ca Mau. He studied tourism and worked as a tour guide for a while, before coming to art with great passion.

He has been in the arts for nearly 10 years. Initially a comedian, but later a folk and reformed opera singer. Tieu Minh Phung is well known through Rap Viet season 4.

In that competition, the audience was "shocked" to see a skinny contestant with a Southern accent singing and rapping, which sounded strange, strange but also interesting. Since then, whenever he accepts a show, Tieu Minh Minh often combines folk opera with rap, if appropriate.

"With cải lương, I was exposed to it from my grandmother and father since I was little, so I know how to sing even though I didn't study it formally from any artist. As for rap, I've only started learning it for over a year now. I was surprised when I passed the preliminary round of Rap Viet, and then got into some of the following rounds.

And from this contest, I set a goal of bringing rap into cải lương as a way to renew traditional Vietnamese music. I am happy that through my songs, some older audiences are just now learning about rap, while young people are exposed to more traditional art," he affirmed.
