Extremely good food for diabetics

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên22/07/2024

Here's some good news for you: New research, just published in the scientific journal Nutrients, has found that a food that's been a long-standing secret of Blue Zone residents' longevity may actually help control diabetes and promote heart health.

Scientists at George Washington University School of Medicine (USA), after analyzing 30 studies, discovered that incorporating beans into the diet helps control diabetes well, according to India TV News.

Beans have a potential role in maintaining health and preventing chronic disease.

Additionally, the results showed that beans had beneficial effects on important cardiovascular health indicators, including "bad" and "good" cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar levels, HbA1c, waist circumference, markers of inflammation in the body, and markers of coronary artery disease risk.

The results suggest a potential role for beans in maintaining health and preventing chronic disease, said Taylor C. Wallace, PhD, adjunct associate professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine.

It also plays an important role in “promoting long-term health, particularly in people with diabetes and cardiovascular disease,” Dr Taylor added.

Incorporating beans into your diet can help control diabetes

Beans are an excellent source of plant-based protein and are high in fiber, folate, and potassium. They also contain essential minerals like zinc, iron, calcium, and magnesium, making them important for people following a plant-based diet.

Furthermore, the low fat content, along with beneficial monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, combined with important micronutrients and bioactive compounds with antioxidant properties, adds to the value of beans as a nutritious option, according to India TV News.

The study adds to existing evidence to support future dietary recommendations and warrants further research into the inclusion of beans in optimal dietary plans.
