Weather on August 20: Most areas will have thunderstorms in the evening and at night

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the day and night of August 20, in the mountainous areas of the North, there will be rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain to very heavy rain with common rainfall from 15-35mm, locally over 100mm. Rain will mainly concentrate in the early morning, late afternoon and night.

In the afternoon and night of August 20, in other areas of the North, Thanh Hoa and the South, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10-30mm, locally over 60mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain over 50mm/3 hours. Thunderstorms are likely to cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Localized heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

At sea, on the day and night of August 20, in the Central and Southern East Sea (including the Truong Sa special zone), there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind of level 6-7 and waves of 1-2m high.

All vessels operating in the above areas are at risk of being affected by tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

Specific weather of the areas

Northwest - Cloudy, scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day, locally heavy rain. Rain in the evening and at night, moderate rain and thunderstorms, some places with heavy to very heavy rain. During thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind may occur.

- The lowest temperature is from 24-27 degrees Celsius, some places below 23 degrees Celsius; the highest is from 31-34 degrees Celsius, especially in Dien Bien and Lai Chau areas from 28-31 degrees Celsius.

Northeastern Region

- During the day, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. In the evening and at night, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy rain; in mountainous areas, there will be rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain. Southeast to South winds at level 2-3. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

- Lowest temperature from 24-27 degrees Celsius, some places below 24 degrees Celsius; highest from 31-34 degrees Celsius.

From Thanh Hoa to Hue

- Sunny day, hot in some places; showers and thunderstorms in some places in the evening and at night. In Thanh Hoa area, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain. Southeast to South wind level 2-3 in the North, South to Southwest wind level 2-3 in the South. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

- Lowest temperature from 24-27 degrees Celsius, highest from 32-35 degrees Celsius, in the South some places above 35 degrees Celsius.

South Central Coast

- Sunny day, hot in some places; showers and thunderstorms in some places in the evening and at night. Southwest wind level 2-3. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

- Temperature ranges from 24-27 degrees Celsius, highest from 32-35 degrees Celsius, some places above 35 degrees Celsius.

During the day, the Central Highlands will have scattered showers and thunderstorms; in the late afternoon and evening, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. Southwest wind level 2-3. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

- Lowest temperature from 20-23 degrees Celsius, highest from 28-31 degrees Celsius.

Southern Region

- During the day, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms; in the late afternoon and evening, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy rain. Southwest wind level 2-3. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

- Lowest temperature from 23-26 degrees Celsius, highest from 31-34 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi capital

- Sunny day, occasional showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and night. Light wind. During thunderstorms there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

- Temperature ranges from 25-27 degrees Celsius, highest from 31-33 degrees Celsius.

Ho Chi Minh City

- Sunny day, occasional showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, no rain at night. Southwest wind level 2-3. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
