Attract readers to the library

The strong development of information technology makes books seem to be "forgotten". In addition, due to the lack of infrastructure and deterioration of the public library system, which is not suitable for the functions and tasks of the library, the number of readers coming to the library is still limited.

Faced with the above situation, the Lai Chau province public library system has organized many activities to attract readers and participate in library activities.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Thai - Director of Lai Chau Provincial Library said: “In 2024, the provincial public library system performed well in building reading habits and serving reading needs. The unit issued and exchanged 800 new reader cards. The number of readers coming to the library and the activities of the library system was about 83,000, of which, coming to the library to research documents by accessing the computer network was more than 10,000; coming to the library activities was over 70,000.

The Lai Chau provincial library network includes a public library system (1 provincial library, 8 district and city libraries); a system of specialized libraries and bookcases including 108 law bookcases at the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns; 158 bookcases at villages and neighborhoods, 1 library and 13 bookcases of the Provincial Border Guard; 208 school and vocational training facility libraries, 1 library and 2 bookcases of the Provincial Military Command, 2 libraries of the Provincial Police, and 15 bookcases of the Commune Cultural Post Office.

According to the assessment of Lai Chau Provincial Library, the library activities basically meet the learning and entertainment needs of local people. Currently, the provincial public library system has 150,000 books. Of which, the provincial library has 79,000 books, the district library has 71,000 books.
