Strengthening the "shield" of the power grid safety corridor in Ha Tinh

Since June, the Huong Khe Regional Power Management Team has organized dozens of campaigns, coordinating with local authorities and people to trim and clear trees in the power grid safety corridor and areas with trees at risk of falling or breaking into power lines. The work is quite difficult due to hot weather, complex mountainous terrain, and large forest areas, but with the determination of being located in a key area, the unit has made every effort to complete the plan before the rainy and stormy season arrives.

Mr. Pham Luong Trung - Head of the Electricity Management Team of Huong Khe area said: “The area is mainly mountainous, with a large area of acacia and cajuput forests, so the risk of encroachment on the safety corridor of the power grid is always present. The rainy and stormy season is approaching, the weather is changing abnormally, the area often has thunderstorms that can cause trees to fall on power lines, causing power outages, affecting people's lives, business production as well as damage to the power grid infrastructure system. During the past peak months, every week, the unit has organized a campaign to focus on pruning and clearing trees in the safety corridor of the power grid, areas at risk of affecting the grid. At the same time, promote propaganda work in many forms such as: Zalo messages, SMS, distributing leaflets, hanging billboards advising people not to plant trees that are too tall inside and outside the power grid corridor, not to arbitrarily build houses, drying racks near power stations, not to fly kites near power lines ...”.

As of July 31, the Huong Khe Regional Power Management Team has trimmed and cleared trees at 984 medium-voltage line poles and handled low-voltage line corridors of 11 transformer stations.

The work of clearing and trimming trees in the power grid safety corridor is also being actively implemented by power units in the province. At the Ky Anh Regional Power Management Team, almost all pole positions managed by the unit have been cleared before the storm season. The unit also installed warning signs on roads, stations and electrical cabinets; checked and maintained safe distances of electrical equipment, etc.

Ha Tinh Electricity Company is managing and operating nearly 260km of 110kV lines, more than 3,600km of medium-voltage lines and more than 7,800km of low-voltage lines. Before this year's storm season, the company handled 2,055 pole spaces with trees outside the grid corridor, ensuring safe distances in grid operations. However, ensuring grid safety corridors still faces many challenges. In addition to the characteristics of the grid passing through many complex terrains, located in areas frequently affected by natural disasters and unusual weather, violations of grid safety corridors are on the rise.

According to Ha Tinh Electricity Company, in the first 7 months of 2025, there were 33 incidents of violating the grid safety corridor on the power grid system, an increase of 11 cases compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, kite flying accounted for 25 cases, causing sudden power outages, disrupting daily life and production in many localities.

The most cases are in communes managed by the Huong Son Regional Electricity Management Team with 10 cases, accounting for 40% of the violations caused by kite flying in the whole province. The team has increased inspection and supervision at places where violations often occur, added warning signs on roads, stations and electrical cabinets, checked and maintained safe distances between electrical equipment. In particular, closely coordinated with local authorities to propagate and mobilize people to comply with the regulations on flying kites in the right places.

At the Ha Tinh High Voltage Grid Operation Management Enterprise (under Ha Tinh Electricity Company) - managing 13 110kV substations and 16 power lines with a total length of more than 240km, at this time, in addition to implementing technical measures to ensure the safety corridor of the power grid, the unit also has to strengthen protection and management of materials and equipment at transformer stations, prevent theft; handle violations of the safety corridor of the 110kV power grid such as: illegal construction, production and business organizations violating the safety distance of electric discharge...

Mr. Ha Minh Dong - Team Leader of the Ha Tinh High Voltage Power Grid Operation Management Enterprise said: “We coordinate with the authorities and households to trim and clear trees outside the corridor, and propagate people not to plant trees or construct structures in the power grid safety corridor. At the same time, we add warning signs prohibiting kite flying and fishing near the 110kV line; periodically inspect the power grid safety corridor to minimize electrical incidents and accidents.”

In the coming time, Ha Tinh Electricity Company will continue to implement synchronous solutions to ensure the safety corridor of the power grid such as: strengthening the work of periodically checking the power grid day/night; organizing large-scale campaigns to trim and clear trees at risk of falling on the power line; stepping up propaganda to raise public awareness... At the same time, closely coordinate with the authorities and functional forces to strictly handle violations.

The electricity sector continues to promote propaganda and widely disseminate legal regulations on electrical safety such as: Electricity Law, Decree No. 62/2025/ND-CP detailing the implementation of the Electricity Law on the protection of power works and safety in the electricity sector... This work, in order to be effective and gradually end violations to ensure grid safety, requires the synchronous and drastic participation of local authorities and functional agencies in propaganda and handling related violations to raise awareness and responsibility of the community in protecting power grid works...
