Immediately after the summer-autumn rice harvest, many localities in Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh) launched a campaign to concentrate, accumulate, and convert land to prepare for the 2024 spring crop production.

In Sau Doi field (Trung Nam village, Cam Thanh commune, Cam Xuyen district), dozens of machines and trucks were mobilized to break the banks of small plots, forming large plots; renovate the fields, build embankments and complete the infrastructure for traffic and irrigation. High and dry fields were renovated, low-lying fields were leveled to facilitate water drainage for production.

After the summer-autumn crop, Cam Xuyen started converting more than 465 hectares of land.

Immediately after the end of the summer-autumn crop, Cam Thanh commune organized the third land conversion campaign in Trung Nam village.

After 10 days of operation, the field has been basically completed. In the middle of the field is a 7m wide internal road; on both sides of the road, people have built small 2m wide banks, with water channels attached to serve irrigation.

Mr. Nguyen Hung Vy - Head of Trung Nam village shared: "This rice field has never implemented the demolition of small plots, so the fields are still fragmented, with some plots only 100 m2 wide. The entire field is 10 hectares wide but there are 193 plots with 154 households participating in production. When converting large plots of land, we will bring each plot at least 1,000 m2 wide, the largest plot is about 4,000 m2 . After converting Sau Doi field, the village will continue to convert land in other fields. The total converted area this year is about 26 hectares".

In addition to Trung Nam village, after the summer-autumn rice harvest, Cam Thanh commune also focused on directing Nam Bac Thanh village to renovate and convert land for the third time with an area of about 25 hectares. In the immediate future, the local government will focus on breaking the small-plot embankments, renovating, re-planning the fields and completing the infrastructure for transportation, irrigation, and embankment construction. After the fields have been re-planned, Cam Thanh commune will measure the area; agree on a land allocation plan to hand over to the people in time for the 2024 spring crop.

As the locality registering the largest area of land conversion in Cam Xuyen district in 2023, Yen Hoa commune is currently mobilizing dozens of machines to re-plan the fields, starting from Yen Quy and Yen Thanh villages with a total area of 124.5 hectares.

The local government supports 3 million VND/ha to help people rent machinery to carry out the conversion work. The locality strives to complete the redistribution of land to hand over to the people before November 18, 2023.

Previously, in 2022, the commune converted land in 5 villages with an area of 304.4 hectares. The converted fields create conditions for synchronous application of mechanization in production, reducing costs and labor, and increasing economic efficiency by 10 - 15% compared to before".

Continuing the success of previous crops, Cam Xuyen district strives to focus on converting an additional 465.5 hectares of land (with 2,128 households) of 11 villages in 9 communes: Cam Binh (11.4 hectares), Cam Thanh (51 hectares), Cam Lac (47 hectares), Cam Quan (30 hectares), Yen Hoa (124.5 hectares), Nam Phuc Thang (51 hectares), Cam Duong (80.6 hectares), Cam Quang (30 hectares) and Cam Thach (40 hectares).

In the converted areas, over 90% of households cultivate one plot and form large-scale model fields, specialized areas for large-scale concentrated commodity production, contributing to improving productivity, quality and income for producers. In the coming time, the district will continue to establish more cooperatives or cooperatives to organize production in the converted areas; attract businesses to invest to promote restructuring and develop agriculture in a modern and sustainable direction".
