This morning, November 14, in Ho Xa town, Vinh Linh district, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province organized the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2024 with the theme "Ensuring social security, empowering women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence". Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized: In recent years, with efforts in implementing the Law on Gender Equality, the province has done well in gender equality work and achieved encouraging results.

The proportion of women in the province accounts for nearly 51% of the population, nearly 50% of the labor force, making an increasingly important contribution to the socio-economic development of the province; the proportion of female National Assembly deputies is 16.67%, female deputies of the Provincial, District and Commune People's Councils are 24%, 26.12% and 21.16%.

Social security, poverty reduction, and job creation have helped thousands of households escape poverty and improve their living standards.

The province has been prioritizing necessary resources to implement many social security solutions to gradually narrow the gender gap in all areas of social life.

Significantly improve women and children's access to health, education and employment services, especially women and girls in disadvantaged areas, so that they have better conditions to develop themselves and participate in social and economic activities; create favorable conditions for women to make practical contributions to the sustainable development of families, communities and society, gradually reducing inequality between men and women.

Besides the achievements, there are still difficulties and challenges in gender equality and violence prevention, especially violence, gender discrimination and abuse of women and children.

Therefore, Party committees, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, and the Committee for the Advancement of Women from provincial to communal levels continue to propagate, disseminate and effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on gender equality and prevention and control of gender-based violence.

Continue to effectively implement economic development, poverty reduction, and job creation programs to help workers increase their income and stabilize their family lives. Develop models to increase women's participation and promote gender equality in areas with high risks of gender inequality to ensure social security, increase power and opportunities for women and girls for the goal of sustainable development. Focus on prevention, detection, and timely handling of cases of violence and abuse against women and children.

Strengthen inspection work on gender equality and women's advancement in agencies, units and localities; strictly handle violations of gender equality; prevent gender-based violence combined with effective implementation of support policies to ensure social security, strive to reduce and eventually end violence and abuse against women and children.

The Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2024 will take place from November 15 to December 15, 2024 with the following contents: Developing and issuing instructions for units and localities to implement the action month at provincial departments, branches, sectors, and mass organizations and districts, towns, and cities throughout the province.

Strengthen propaganda about the theme, message and activities of the action month on mass media at the unit and locality in many diverse forms, suitable for each target group and actual situation.

Promote the mobilization of resources to implement the month of action, enhance the socialization of communication activities and support women and children in difficult circumstances, victims of abuse, violence, trafficking, exploitation, and people affected by natural disasters and climate change.
