Two subjects impersonating mobile police
On August 11, Dong Thuan Ward Police, Quang Tri Province, said they were investigating a case in which two young men impersonated police officers to stop vehicles, check them, and take money from passersby.
The two people invited to work are Dang Trung Quan (20 years old, residing in Dong Hoi ward) and Bui Bao Long (21 years old, residing in the same locality).
According to the initial investigation, at around 8:30 p.m. on August 9, Quan drove a motorbike with license plate 74 AA - -564.80 (the real license plate is 74 AA-564.90, with the number 9 changed to number 8) to take Long to drink water at Ho Chi Minh Square (Dong Hoi Ward). Here, the two discussed "catching" swerving vehicles.
Then, Quan drove Long on Ly Thuong Kiet Street in the South-North direction. When they arrived at 302 Ly Thanh Tong Street (TDP 6 Loc Dai, Dong Thuan Ward), the two approached and blocked the motorbike driven by Tran Nam Quoc and Nguyen Duy Hoang (residents of Hoan Lao Commune).
Quan took out his phone, opened a picture of himself in a police uniform for Quoc and Hoang to see, then asked to check their papers, threatening to handle violations such as speeding, vehicles without mirrors, and structural changes. After that, the two young men asked Quoc and Hoang to follow them to 27 Le Mo Khai Street (TDP 6, Dong Thuan Ward) and forced them to put 300,000 VND in the trunk of Quan's car to "let it go".
The money was then spent by both of them. At the police station, Quan and Long admitted their actions.
The case is under further investigation.
