Reading festival for students of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School (Thai Thuy).
One day in April, teachers and students of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School (Thai Thuy) eagerly awaited the mobile library car on its journey to bring the light of knowledge to teachers and students. Under the guidance of the Provincial Library staff, the students were delighted to freely choose their favorite books. To serve their reading needs, in addition to the genres of science, technology, entertainment, stories, etc., the mobile library car is also equipped with computers, projection screens, and televisions to serve the needs of accessing the internet and accessing information technology with a rich collection of digital documents. Not only reading books, on this journey, the students can also participate in storytelling according to books and games related to the stories in the books. Pham Thuy Duong, class 9B shared: Every time the school and the Provincial Library organize a reading festival, she and her friends are guided on how to choose and read books. The types of books that teachers often recommend are about history, life sciences, family relationships, and life skills. Through the useful book festival, I learned how to choose the right books, read books, and follow the books effectively, which actively supports my learning and training.
The operation of mobile library vehicles is an effective way to bring knowledge to students, creating a new space to help them enjoy reading and practice effective reading skills. Ms. Duong Thi Nguyet, Principal of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School, said that the school regularly coordinates with the Provincial Library to organize reading hours, book study hours, and book introduction competitions to spread the love of reading and promote the reading movement among students. In addition to traditional books, school teachers actively introduce to students new types of books such as e-books, audiobooks, etc. to encourage them to explore new knowledge and access and adapt to information technology, meeting the learning requirements in the education and training innovation program.
Each school has its own way of promoting the love of reading in students. At Tan Hoa Primary School (Vu Thu), every Wednesday morning, the school spends the first 30 minutes of class for students to read books and tell stories in books. This activity has been maintained for many years and has formed a habit and passion for reading in students. To create more love of reading for students, the school invested in an open, friendly library in harmony with nature, students can easily access and choose books that suit their needs so that they can read books as soon as they arrive at school, during recess, and after school. Not only the school library, but also in classrooms there are parent bookcases supported by students and parents. In addition to reading sessions in class, students can also register to borrow books and stories to take home. To attract students to the library, the school actively adds books, organizes the movement "Contribute a small book, read thousands of good books", and organizes propaganda and introduces new books every week according to the program "One book a week" to teachers and students.
Ms. Lai Thi Khanh Van, Vice Principal of Tan Hoa Primary School, said that practical activities have created a habit of reading books for students, more and more people come to the library, and the number of books borrowed has increased. Students not only read stories but also actively learn about many other types of books about natural sciences, the world, the universe, etc. Since then, the quality of subjects has improved significantly, especially Vietnamese, Science, History, and Geography. Library activities have created a reading movement, developed a reading culture in schools, helped students gain more knowledge while practicing reading skills, memory skills and thinking ability, contributing positively to improving the quality of comprehensive education.
Promoting reading culture in the community is a key task that the Provincial Library is striving to carry out. Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Director of the Provincial Library, said: In recent years, along with serving readers on-site, the Provincial Library has actively innovated service activities, not only bringing books to schools but also coordinating to organize book reading festivals, storytelling based on books, learning about books... attracting teachers, students and parents to participate. In the coming time, not stopping at the school level, the Provincial Library will increase the organization of mobile trips to localities, especially communes far from the center, creating conditions for people to access traditional and modern books such as e-books, audiobooks, contributing to improving reading skills, gradually developing a reading culture in the community, contributing to building a knowledge community to respond to the current 4.0 industrial revolution.
